9 Moments That Prove Jon Snow & Dany Are Twins

by Rachel Semigran

After Game of Thrones' shocking Season 5 finale, fans have been up in arms about the way the show left us hanging. I warn ye, spoilers afoot! When Jon Snow was left dead in the cold after being stabbed by his men of The Night's Watch, a booming, "What the eff!?" was heard shouted across the nation. It wasn't long before fans took to the Internet to get working on theories that would prove Jon Snow is actually is alive. Even though Game of Thrones has killed off many beloved characters Jon Snow was just a step too far. The strongest theory is that Jon Snow is actually the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, also known as R+L=J, which would make Jon Snow related to Daenerys Targaryen.

If R+L=J is true, then the likelihood of Jon Snow's resurrection is very high. The Targaryen's are born of fire, and were his body to be burned, he might actually be revitalized by it. As we saw in Daenerys, she wasn't harmed by fire, she just became more powerful in it... and became the mother of dragons. There's already plenty of proof that Jon Snow and Daenerys are related. Heck, it's all in the name of the book series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The Starks stand for ice with their whole, "Winter is coming" mantra and Jon's rule of the icy cold wall, and the Targaryens are represented by fire, ergo Jon Snow is ice and fire.

Not only are there hints all over the show and books, their stories are actually quite parallel. Take a look:

They Have No Fear When It Comes To Beasts

She's all, sweet child o' mine. And he's all....

Boop!

Jon Snow's Thoughts On Wildings = Dany's Thoughts on the Unsullied

Jon's plea to have the Night's Watch join up with the Wildlings was similar to Daenerys' diplomacy toward the unsullied when she began ruling Meereen.

Jon's Compassion For Sam = Dany's Bond With Missandei

Both Sam and Missandei started at the bottom rung and quickly rose to become fearless leaders and trusted advisors to those in charge. When Sam first joined the Night's watch, Jon Snow was the first to come to his defense stating, "Sam's no different from the rest of us. There was no place for him in the world, so he's come here. We're not gonna hurt him in the training yard anymore. Never again, no matter what Thorne says. He's our brother now, and we're going to protect him."

They're Both Cuddle Bugs

Oh look at this precious moment!

Just look at this happiness! Love like these couples lasts FOREVER, right?...

They Both Know When To Kill For Mercy

Daenerys faced the unimaginable pain of burning the body of her beloved when he became catatonic and powerless. She learned that sometimes there is compassion in killing — just as Jon Snow learned when he put an arrow through the heart of Mance Rayder to save him the shame of screaming to death while being burned alive.

Speaking Of Which... They've Both Lost Their One True Loves

If you thought Khal Drogo's death was rough...

Ygritte's was even worse.

Jon Snow And The Night's Watch = Dany And The Dothraki

At the end of Season 5, Jon Snow was betrayed by those he lead...

As was Dany when the Dothraki encircle her when she's most vulnerable.

But They've Still Got Plenty Of Game

Daario Naharis is like, "The Second Sons are yours, and so is Daario Naharis. My sword is yours. My life is yours. My heart is yours. " And Ygritte is like...

Which was totally proven by Melisandre:

Bow chicka wow wow.

They Play Against Gender Stereotypes

Game of Thrones throws a lot of gender roles out the window throughout the series (Brienne of Tarth is one shining example), for as many as it reinforces. Dany and Jon reject traditional femininity and masculinity through their words and their actions. Every time Dany is underestimated for being a woman, she proves her power tenfold. When Jon is mocked for being soft, he stands strong to his conviction... and in a show as sex-crazed as Game of Thrones, Snow, though deeply desired, has had one sexual partner. And conversely, Dany rules her bedroom the same way she rules her kingdom, with the fire of dragons.

As you can see, it's more than just having the most desirable hair in all of Westeros that Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen have in common. Dany's lust for power may be stronger than Jon's, but the manner in which they rule is strikingly similar. They are both forthright, compassionate, and thoughtful. Unlike many rulers in Game of Thrones, Dany and Jon have a desire to protect their people and fight for the greater good, not just their own personal gain. They also have the best one-on-one negotiation strategies of every single leader in Westeros. Maybe it's just something they have in their blood, eh?
