'The Last Ship' Season 3 Is A Long Ways Off

There are some TV shows out there that you feel more than ready to take a break from by the end of the season, whether it be due to the perpetual violence or soul-crushing heartbreak (or maybe even a little bit of both). But then there are other shows that leave you almost immediately craving more to the point where any kind of hiatus feels like an eternity. Such is the case for TNT's hit drama The Last Ship , which will air its Season 2 finale in just a few hours time. The fact is, I want more and I want it now. So considering that the series is about to leave a significant void in my Sunday night schedule, I can't help but look to the future and wonder when The Last Ship Season 3 will premiere. And, unfortunately, the answer to that question is: far too long. [UPDATE: A TNT press release announced that it will return June 12.]

You see, when the network announced in August that the series would be picked up for a third season, it also revealed when viewers could expect it to debut. No exact date was specified, but it did state that the third season would air sometime in the summer of 2016. And given that the two previous seasons premiered in late June, I'd say Season 3 means to keep with that tradition, which means we have a solid 10 months of waiting ahead of us. But fear not, my friends, for there are plenty of other like-minded shows out there that could help to fill the vacancy The Last Ship will leave behind. Such as…

The Walking Dead

After all, when it comes to nearly wiped out populations, The Walking Dead is pretty much an expert on the subject. The one big difference here is that when someone dies, that may not prevent them from getting up and walking around. Welcome to the wonderful world of zombies, people!

The Strain

A viral outbreak with a vampire-like twist? Now that's something we should all want to sink our teeth into.

Falling Skies

Sure, the alien part is a little out there, but it all boils down to one main concept: humanity fighting back against extinction. So if you're looking to stay with that particular theme, trust me when I say this series is the one for you.

The Leftovers

Because if there's one thing more puzzling than having a majority of the population wiped out, it's having a majority of the population just disappear. (Cue the spooky music.)

The 100

Don't let the fact that it's a CW show fool you, this series is just as dark and compelling as any other survival-of-the-fittest type show out there. You'll be on the edge of your seat for basically every episode — guaranteed!

Under The Dome

Two words: Stephen King. That only should be enough to convince you that this thriller is well worth your time.

Grey's Anatomy

For those of us who just want a little more Eric Dane (aka McSteamy) in our lives. You're welcome.
