Why Did Ariana Skip The VMAs?

by Daniela Cabrera

If you in any way keep track of pop culture and the entertainment world, you know it is impossible to avoid any news about the 2015 Video Music Awards and all of the drama that went down during the show. Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj made up, Miley Cyrus released a surprise new album, and Kanye West announced he's running for president in 2020. It was a show of surprises, but one certain controversial pop star wasn't at the VMAs: Ariana Grande. So, where was she?

Although she was nominated for two awards this year — both for Best Collaboration for "Love Me Harder" with The Weeknd, and "Bang Bang" with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj — Grande chose to skip the show completely. So, what could be more important? Oh, you know, her own solo Honeymoon Tour. No big deal.

On the night of the VMAs, Aug. 30, Grande tweeted that she was nearby in Las Vegas for a stop on her world tour at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. She wrote, "Vegas !! y'all were amazing tonight. I love you so much. thank you for your love & energy."

In fact, the tour has kept Grande busy for a loooong time now. After her incredible rise as a pop queen in 2014, Grande set off on her Honeymoon Tour to support her album, My Everything, on Feb. 25, 2015. Since then, she has been on the road playing to arenas all over the globe. After spending most of the early summer in Europe, she hopped back over to the States in July, went to Asia for two weeks, and now is back on the West Coast. Alright, so she's been busy.

Grande has also been preparing some new music. In August news started spreading that she was getting ready to drop "Focus On Me," a reported new single she was working on. She started dropping some teasers on Snapchat, revealing bits of a song that sounded very '90s house. And according to her Twitter, new music is coming very soon:

In case you doubted how hard she's been working, the 22-year-old is also about to release her first fragrance, Ari by Ariana. That's when you really know you're doing well for yourself! She has already posted some teasers for her fragrance on Instagram, and the fans are already biting at the bit to get their hands and noses on it. She's been steadily collaborating with her videographer friend Alfredo Flores, who is on tour with her, by posting some pretty sweet photos and videos, and she's definitely got a project up her sleeve.

The Honeymoon Tour is wrapping up on Oct. 29 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, so I can only assume she will soak up some sun and rays before heading back to work again. Grande has a lot coming up and it looks like she's only getting started in her pop domination. I think she will be at next years VMAs — no question.
