Beth Ditto Slays Marc Jacobs' Spring 2016 Show

by Marc Cuenco

Closing out New York Fashion Week with a bang, Marc Jacobs' spring/summer 2016 runway show was everything you could want in a finale. Held at the Ziegfeld Theatre, the designer transported audiences to a Hollywood premiere complete with a red carpet, big band, and even paparazzi. But in a night when anything could happen, Beth Ditto at the Marc Jacobs show was definitely one of the week's most breathtaking moments. Before hitting the runway, the plus size style icon talked about how she became part of Jacobs' latest NYFW show.

"I got an email, and then I answered it, and then I flew here for a fitting," Ditto told Elle backstage. The Gossip rocker wore a white evening gown with metallic silver embellishments, 3/4 length sleeves, and a thigh-high slit. The look was part-Grecian and part-punk rock, which suited the designer's theatrical theme and showcased Ditto's figure in a very body positive manner. She also carried a matching white feather boa that totally screamed old Hollywood goddess with a touch of East Village. Ditto also raved about her makeup for the fashion show that was seemingly inspired by her own look.

"I love it," she said. "I'm obsessed with it because this is my favorite kind of mascara. I'm not good at pulling off natural looks."

It was a night of firsts for the celebrated American designer, from the show's historic location, to the debut of the merging of his two lines Marc Jacobs and Marc By Marc Jacobs. Yet it was the appearance of Ditto, who previously designed her own plus size clothing line, that made the #MarcJacobsPremiere show truly inspiring and magical.

All hail, goddess Beth!
