Alan Cumming Actually Wore Crocs To The Emmys

Crocs are not just for gardening or schlepping around any longer. Seriously. Actor Alan Cumming wore Crocs at the 2015 Emmys, opting for something new and stylish from the normally casual shoe brand, and pairing them with a luxe Vivienne Westwood suit.

I know on paper it may sound a little strange, but stay with me here for a second. The fashionable Cumming didn't don a pair of the usual Crocs clogs as you know them at the awards show. Instead, he wore a pair of Crocs CitiLane Roka shoes in black. Cumming's shoes won't be available until spring 2016, according to a press release.

But the actor didn't merely provide an advance look at a pair of snazzy, and likely very comfortable, shoes for dudes. He proved that when styled properly, Crocs can be fashionable and appropriate footwear for a dressy event.

I know that Crocs are often viewed like Birkenstocks in that they're often chosen more for comfort than styling purposes, but as Cumming proved, there is a reason that millions sport 'em on their feet.

It might take a minute or 10 for you to get passed the perception of Crocs as uber casual. That's OK and it's normal — I was a little unsure as well until I saw how positively dapper Cumming looked with his suit, his umbrella-as-cane, and his Crocs.

Look at those shoes. You don't look at them and necessarily think Crocs right away, do you? No! They paired quite perfectly with his suit. The cuts and creases of his pants were so unique that they required a pair of shoes that weren't too ostentatious.

Yes, the verdict is in. His footwear was pretty on point.

It seems like Crocs might get a fashion boost, thanks to Cumming's styling inspiration.

These shoes look so comfortable and breathable, thanks to the construction. They resemble slip-on Vans sneakers, but are a little fancier. Due to the materials and the cut, these can be dressed up or down more easily than a pair of kicks.

Anyone could wear these shoes with jeans and still look sharp.

I can see them worn with a cuffed, darker rinse, and skinny pair. ($78, abercrombie.com)

There are many options for outfits to wear with this pair of shoes.

I'm excited to see Crocs take a turn for the elegant thanks to their appearance at the 2015 Emmys.
