How To Recreate Taylor Schilling's Wavy Lob

by Emily McClure

At last night's 67th Primetime Emmy Awards, Taylor Schilling stunned in her Grecian-style yellow gown. However, as a hair and beauty fanatic, I was more obsessing over her elegant, wavy lob. Styled by John Frieda International Creative Consultant Harry Josh, the actress' voluminous locks paired perfectly with the asymmetrical neckline of her Stella McCartney gown. In a press release, Josh talked about the inspiration behind the look: "Taylor's dress has a bohemian Grecian vibe and strong color so we thought it would be cool to take something classic and make it more modern — the volume on the sides gives a contemporary pyramid shape and the relaxed waves evoke glamour." Well, there you have it folks!

As a creative consultant for the brand, Josh was sure to use John Frieda products on the actress to create the sensational hairstyle — which is pretty exciting for us, since John Frieda is hella affordable. This means that you can recreate this look without breaking the bank. Don't mind me as I run (not walk) to the nearest drugstore. Wondering how you too can recreate this glamorous look? Here's a step by step, straight from the stylist himself.

1. Apply Mousse

To start, Josh applied John Frieda Luxurious Volume Volume Building Mousse to Schilling's damp hair to create volume and dimension.

2. Blow Dry With A Round Brush

Using a round brush, blow dry the ends of the hair. If you're looking to add more volume, one of my favorite tricks to to pull the brush up as you're blowdrying. This creates height and volume to your roots.

3. Make Waves

Next, wrap sections of your hair around a 1-inch curling iron to create waves. Harry Josh used the curling iron that he created, the Harry Josh Pro Tools 2-in-1 Ceramic Marcel Curling Iron. However, any 1-inch curling iron is sure to do the trick. The key to this look is to wrap the curls in the same direction, so you imitate a vintage finger wave.

4. Set In Place

Lastly, finish the hair with a spritz of volumizing hairspray. Josh used the John Frieda Luxurious Volume All-Day Hold Hairspray to keep Schilling's strands in place.
