See This Crazy Rihanna Outfit From All Angles

by Renata Certo-Ware

Paris Fashion Week is in full swing, and as usual, Dior, one of the most hotly anticipated shows of the season, is bringing out all the stars. One of the first to arrive to the show venue was Rihanna, wearing a pale pink cape from Dior's Spring/Summer 2016 collection, which the label is set to present.

I'll start with the positive: First of all, her makeup is flawless. From the matte taupe lip and matching pinkish eye shadow to the perfectly placed eyebrows and dewy skin, she has that Paris glow. But the delicate beauty look seems at odds with her hair, which is piled up into a big ole up-do.

The outfit is equally confused, mixing contrasting elements that on their own are amazing, but together seem a bit random It starts with the silhouette itself — is this a dress, or a cape?

The pink satin confection has a knit collar and exactly one giant fur sleeve, which seems odd for a Spring/Summer collection, and that parenthetical pocket is a bit too anatomical for my sensibilities. Then, factor in the patent leather boots with a Lucite heel, which I would literally give my entire shoe collection to own, but they don't really fit the theme or even the era of the dress, hair, and makeup. The elements work well separately, but I'm not sure they gel in one outfit.

I'm not going to lie, it was giving me Hobbit vibes, from the fur-trimmed cape to the delphinium-covered hillock that Dior built outside of the Louvre for the show. But this is Rihanna - it's always "go big or go home" with the singer.

Let's break this look down together, shall we?

... which doesn't seem sturdy enough to hold up the heavy satin body of the piece. The shape of the dress is so funky and mod, I would have loved to see something more cohesive at the neckline. Here it is from the left side:

This is the dress' best angle — it really showcases the lovely drape. But that pocket...

Check out that fur sleeve.

Aside from merely just being a single fur sleeve on a pink satin cape, it doesn't quite match the other elements, perhaps because of the color scheme. The collar is a pale, orangey beige and the sleeve is graphic black and white. Hey, it wouldn't be Rihanna without some unexpected details.

Here's a full look at the venue, which is the stuff of Instagram dreams.

Look, I love Rih-Rih, and I wouldn't have her any other way. If that means that we are sometimes left confused by her choices just to later bask in the glory of her greatest red carpet hits, I'm willing to take the good with the bad. After all, there's really nothing she can't pull off — cape dresses with fur sleeves included.
