It was a bit of a shocker when the Season 1 finale of How To Get Away With Murder revealed that Oliver was HIV-positive, but 'shippers of Coliver found solace in the fact that the two remained together at the start of Season 2. They were even working together to prevent Connor from becoming HIV-positive once they started having sex again. How so? Connor has been taking PrEP on HTGAWM , which is one preventative measure for HIV-positive couples to hinder the spreading to the other partner.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis, "is a prevention option for people who are at high risk of getting HIV." It is a consistent pill taken every day, intended for use with other prevention options like condoms. (As in, it doesn't replace the need for continued safe sex y'all.) So, when Connor and Oliver are talking about D-Day — you guys get what D-Day is in this situation, right? — that probably meant that Connor has taken the medicine for a certain amount of days to allow it to do its business inside his body before the two can become sexually active again. I'm not a doctor, so I'm definitely not endorsing the medication based on its use in the show, but I'm hopeful the fictional characters can benefit from their precautions!
By the end of the episode, the couple resumes their sexual activity, aka D-Day arrived. But it didn't come without its moments. Earlier in the episode, Connor went to a sex party — FOR THE CASE, YOU GUYS — and played by the "you can look, but not touch" rule, because he's a changed man who is definitely ~in love~ with his hacker boyfriend. He admitted his whereabouts to Oliver, who took it quite well. So don't worry, the sex continued.
It's pretty awesome that HTGAWM not only included an HIV-positive couple on its show, but it's even awesomer (I'm making that a thing, don't question it) that they're developing a story line showing what an HIV-positive couple goes through to keep up a sexually active relationship. Way to go, HTGAWM. Keep doin' you.
