Taylor Swift Is Co-Hosting The 2016 Met Gala

by Jessica Thomas

The Met Gala is arguably one of the biggest nights in fashion. A formal fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, the Met Gala is a star-studded event that draws celebs and fashion designers alike, and next year, one of the biggest stars in the world will be co-hosting (alongside Anna Wintour, natch). Taylor Swift is co-hosting the 2016 Met Gala alongside Wintour, Idris Elba and Apple Chief Design Officer Jonathan Ive.

The Met Gala has a different theme every year, and I can't wait to see what the stars do with 2016's theme — "Manus X Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology." In an interview with Vogue, Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton explained the theme.

"Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made," he said. "But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other."

So cool, right? It's definitely a step outside the normal comfort zone as far as themes go. In 2013, it was "Punk: Chaos to Couture," in 2008 it was "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy," and in 2005, it was "House of Chanel." Each brought fabulous costumes, and 2016 is sure to be the same way. After all, Taylor has great fashion sense.

How adorable was she at the 2014 Met Gala? (Tay was touring in Japan in 2015). And in 2013, she went sultry with this black dress.

Swift is joining a long line of style-makers who've accompanied Queen Anna in hosting the gala.

Last year, Jennifer Lawrence served as a co-host and slaaaayed in this cutout dress.

The year before that, Sarah Jessica Parker rocked a major skirt (and hair) as one of the co-hosts.

In 2013, Beyonce served the honorary role and wore a totally insane black and gold dress (complete with over-the-knee boots).

In 2012, Carey Mulligan went totally unexpected with a short dress as she co-hosted the event.

In 2011, Salma Hayek co-hosted in the most dreamy nude chiffon dress.

And in 2010, it was Oprah who hosted alongside Anna in this gorgeous navy gown (with the late Oscar de la Renta by her side).

See? Tay has got some major role models to live up to in her new co-hosting role. Good thing she's got a squad of celebrity girlfriends to help her pick the perfect outfit.
