2014 Golden Globes Dresses for Celebrities, Straight Off the Spring 2014 Runways

The Golden Globes red carpet is like a painter's canvas for celebrities to showcase their style chops. The most alluring runway looks from top designers are displayed to perfection on Hollywood's stars — and for those walking the carpet, catwalk shows are basically like thumbing through a closet of choices. (Tough life, right?) We played stylist for some of our favorite looks from the Spring 2014 runways for 12 2014 Golden Globe nominees, in hopes that this year's awards provides the longest best dressed list yet.

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence is somewhat of a wildcard on the red carpet, experimenting with designers, silhouettes, and styles that her adoring public didn’t even know were in vogue. However, the American Hustle actress manages each time to look youthful, feminine, and edgy all at once.

Reem Acra Spring 2014

Lawrence would look absolutely spellbinding in Reem Acra’s edgy, glittering tulle gown; the hint of skins adds modernity to a classic silhouette.

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington has a mischievous side on the red carpet, pulling out all the stops when it comes to her unconventional style. Donning designers including Stella McCartney to Marchesa, the Scandal star loves bright shades, unexpected appliqué, and just the right amount of feminine charm in her gowns.

Alberta Ferretti Spring 2014 Collection

Ferretti’s Spring collection is especially perfect for Washington’s obsession with bright shades. The tiered column style in the middle could be adjusted to fit the actress’s burgeoning baby bump.

Zooey Deschanel

Zooey Deschanel dresses exactly to fit her personality. The New Girl actress’s picks are inspired by a vintage spirit, but are ultimately modern, quirky-chic, and executed with precise attention to minor details. Can we call her a kooky-debutante?

Oscar de la Renta Spring 2014

With a bit of alteration and removal of some of the tulle underskirt, this showstopper would be perfect for Deschanel’s style.

Sofia Vergara

Sofia Vergara is going to keep rocking those body-conscious, jet beaded, colorfully sexy ensembles until she decides she’s finished with them, and… well, go get it. Her gowns glitter with the best of them, and always garner attention on the red carpet for their unapologetically sultry silhouettes.

Elie Saab Spring 2014

This Elie Saab gown is simultaneously alluring and feminine, and the red shade is perfect for Vergara.

Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham and the fashion world are slightly at odds regarding her red carpet style; the actress appears to be having a marvelous time parading around in cheeky ensembles, but fashion critics often fault her for choosing offbeat dresses in unflattering shapes. Nevertheless, Dunham always makes a strong statement on the red carpet.

Oscar De la Renta Spring 2014 Collection

We would love to see Dunham in a dress with a classic silhouette, and Oscar De la Renta’s beautiful pleated blue gown would do the job splendidly.

Elisabeth Moss

Elisabeth Moss is yet another star whose style journey has been somewhat hit or miss. She also tends to throw a curveball at fashion critics, often veering away from anticipated red carpet choices and leaving her audience bewildered by her often vintage-inspired, playful style.

Zac Posen Spring 2014 Collection

Zac Posen’s ethereal confection would love heavenly on Moss, whose blond hair and petite frame would be a beautiful pairing with the dress.

Hayden Panettiere

Hayden Panettiere is yet another celebrity who loves to display her curves on the runway, and though we wouldn’t go so far as to say she dresses like her Nashville character Juliet Barnes, the subtle reference is there. Favorite styles include mermaid silhouette gowns, and anything sparkly, pastel, or vibrantly hued.

Juan Carlos Obando Spring 2014 Collection

This nude, silky number would be perfect for Panettiere with some lace at the neckline: body conscious, feminine, and a bit ostentatious.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock took her style to new heights over the last decade, nearly always wowing fashion critics with her subtly body conscious, daring ensembles. The Gravity actress has had several fashion moments in breathtaking Marchesa gowns, favoring trendy ensembles with feminine flair and a few sparkles here and there.

Dennis Basso Spring 2014

This feminine Dennis Basso showstopper deserves to be worn by an actress who can pull it off, and Sandra Bullock has the confidence to do it.

Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet loves gowns that highlight her statuesque beauty, with added elements that underscore a specific element of the dress. As Winslet’s baby with Ned Rocknroll was born in early December, we expect the new mom will choose a comfortable yet elegant piece.

Zang Toi Spring 2014

Zang Toi’s classic black strapless dress is perfect for Winslet’s timeless, Old Hollywood style, and the embroidered bodice adds a hint of interest at the neckline.

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts knows how to capture our hearts on the red carpet and onscreen, though her style is uniquely her own and rarely disappoints. A well-cut vintage or vintage-inspired dress in a shade of rose gold, silver, or black defines classic Roberts style, but this year the August: Osage County star has delighted the fashion world by stepping out in ensembles in unexpected prints and vivid colors by designers like Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2014

With an added lining and a slightly shorter sleeve, Marc Jacobs’s sheer beaded dress would be a perfect edgy style departure for Julia Roberts. With her tall frame, she can pull off any pattern, and the red detailing would be ideal with her brunette locks.

Amy Poehler

Amy Poehler loves a classic silhouette in a deep, flattering tone, and her red carpet looks always veer towards a modern style. Past red carpet looks include several column dresses in a uniform color, her daring and completely chic plunging tuxedo, and a few gorgeous metallics thrown in for good measure.

Prabal Gurung Spring 2014

Considering her proclivity for black and white, we hope Poehler steps out of her comfort zone by choosing a gown with chic design elements like this Prabal Gurung column.

Lupita Nyong'o

Lupita Nyong’o has a fresh, vibrant perspective on fashion, often showcasing her style in neon brights and unexpected pops of pattern and texture on the red carpet.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2014 Collection

Nyong’o would be resplendent in this vibrant red caped gown, perfect for her love of bright colors and simple lines.
