Katy Perry, Rihanna, Beyonce & More Singers' Crazy Backstage Demands

Katy Perry's backstage demands have been made public, and she's really into health food. According to TMZ, the singer requested the following for her Caesar's Palace Vegas concert: Fresh veggies AT ALL TIMES, including spinach/broccoli/celery/beets/carrots/kale, etc. Two large baskets of fruit — one must be tropical, dinner must include a vegetarian option ... plus quinoa or couscous. ALL meals must be low-fat and health conscious and cannot contain MSG.

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed. This all seems totally in line for the singer who posted a picture of huge bags full of all the vitamins she takes per day. I'm not surprised she's on a health kick. When I clicked TMZ's article I was hoping for a really weird list of demands because what's the point of being famous if you can't ask for weird shit? Fortunately, there are plenty of stars out there who have risen to the occasion with their own comical backstage demands. So many that we've already documented nine stars' crazy demands and still have seven more singers left over for this article. Take note Katy, this is how celebrity is done.

M.I.A.

In addition to a European cheese and cracker tray and sour gummy candy, M.I.A requested 3 backup dancers on each stop of her tour. But not just any backup dancers (heavens, no!) they must be females aged 20-25 and able to perform in full burkas because cultural appropriation FTW (shakes head).

Beyonce

In addition to not allowing outside photographers backstage at her concerts lest they get an unflattering shot, her list of tour demands includes all backstage staff dressed in 100% cotton and all water to be alkaline-only and “served chilled to 21 degrees and with $900 titanium straws.” I don’t even know what alkaline water is, but if Queen Bey wants it, she’s gonna get it.

Mariah Carey

The sultry singer requested the same thing I’d ask for if I was ever famous: 20 white kittens. She also wanted confetti shaped like butterflies and 100 white doves to be released when she turned on Westfield Mall’s Christmas lights in 2009. She got the doves, but the kittens weren’t allowed due to health and safety laws.

Nicki Minaj

A girl after my own heart, she requested candles that smell like baked goods (aka what real estate agents use to sell houses) and buckets of spicy fried chicken –– but only the wings, no thighs allowed.

Christina Aguilera

This singer hasn’t quite left her childhood behind as she requests one bottle of Flintstone Vitamins with extra Vitamin C backstage on her tours.

Jordin Sparks

Jordin Sparks just wants to effing see. One of my favorite singer demands is this American Idol winner’s request for “sufficient lighting” because it just makes me imagine that at some point on her tours there wasn’t good lighting and I can just see her asking politely, “um, if possible can we add more lights, because I really just can’t see anything.” Too precious.

Rihanna

Not to be outdone by Jordin Sparks, Rihanna has some lighting requests of her own. Specifically that appropriate lighting be provided for a “relaxed atmosphere.” (Best of luck to the intern who has to figure out what that means.) Also requested is an animal-print throw rug (cheetah or leopard will do) and it “must be CLEAN, as she will walk on it barefoot.”
