The Engagement Photos The World Actually Needed

by Julie Alvin

I'm sure that there are non-cheesy engagement photos out there. They must exist! But when Marian Schembari and her fiancé Elliot got engaged and started with the planning, they came across the same tired engagement pic poses again and again. Schembari wrote in a guest post for Offbeat Bride:

But when we started our wedding research, we had a bit of a chuckle seeing the same series of photos again and again:

  1. Woman looking daintily up at her intended while he looks broodingly into the distance
  2. Couple holding hands in an awkward position so the shiny bling was obviously front and center
  3. Couple kissing on the beach with pre-wife lifting one leg and pointing her toes

Schembari and her husband-to-be decided to spoof these tired tropes by reversing the gender roles — pictures of his bare feet on tip toe balanced atop her boots; his head resting lovingly on her chest, a flower tucked behind his ear; his legs wrapped around her waist. Schembari's friend and wedding photographer Malia Moss saw what the couple had started and offered to take similar photos professionally. The results are surprising and hilarious. Perhaps at the wedding Elliot will walk down the aisle and Schembari will be waiting at the altar? We welcome it.
