8 Of Anne Hathaway's Greatest Movie Costumes

by Rosie Narasaki

I think we can all agree that Anne Hathaway has quite the filmography — I mean, The Princess Diaries alone is nothing short of iconic. Add in Ella Enchanted and The Devil Wears Prada into the mix, and you've got yourself a potent early aughts nostalgia concoction. Her newer films are, of course, awesome as well —and (almost) all of her movies have one thing in common: Amazing costumes. Yep, over the years, Hathaway has worn some stunning costumes. One of the many upshots of such a kick-ass filmography, eh?

All those great costumes only stand to reason, since she's played two princesses, a queen, a Catwoman, and an assistant to a fictionalized Anna Wintour — and hey, she's the subject of not one, but two of the best movie makeovers ever, for crying out loud. Plus, there's also the fact that she's handily covered just about every era — early 19th century empire waists made an appearance in Becoming Jane, nerdy '90s grunge factored into One Day, charmingly anachronistic Marie Antoinette-style baroque stunned in Alice in Wonderland, all the latest trends of the day were featured in The Devil Wears Prada — heck, she even went into the future in Interstellar.

So, with all that in mind, let's take a look at some of her best looks over the years!

1. The Princess Diaries

Straight up iconic.

2. One Day

Ooh, she can really work the whole artsy/bookish look.

3. The Dark Knight Rises

Hathaway wore the iconic catsuit with considerable aplomb, and all of the other ensembles she wore in the film were similarly fabulous. Case in point?

4. Get Smart

Selina Kyle wasn't Hathaway's first try at espionage — she also played the ultra sharply-dressed Agent 99 in Get Smart.

5. Alice in Wonderland

Um, gorgeous.

6. Ella Enchanted

You can never go wrong with fairytale garb.

7. Becoming Jane

Ditto Regency-era gowns; every single dress she wore in this film was lovely.

8. The Devil Wears Prada

And last but not least? Hathaway wore so many glamorous outfits in this film, it's worth a re-watch for the clothes alone. I mean, honestly:

Pure slayage.
