Fashion & Stars Wars Join Forces For Charity

If you love Star Wars like I do, you've been painstakingly counting down the days until Dec.18 and consuming as much behind the scenes information as possible. Now, the franchise is doing more than giving us a film. Force 4 Fashion combines fashion and Star Wars to benefit Child Mind Institute in what's sure to be heck of an auction. The project brings together some of the biggest names in fashion. Designers like Diane Von Furstenberg, Rag & Bone, and Halston are all slated to create pieces for an auction facilitated through Disney Consumer Products and Bloomingdales. The pieces will be inspired by the costumes in the upcoming film, and with such talented labels attached, they're sure to be gorgeous.

Force 4 Fashion falls under the larger umbrella of Force for Change, an organization dedicated to "inspiring people to make a positive impact." Force for Change was started by Disney and Lucasfilm to focus on the way in which the story of Star Wars can be used to impact the world philanthropically. The organization attributes George Lucas himself for the idea. According to the Force for Change website, Lucas used early screenings of the original Star Wars films to raise money for charitable causes. It's no surprise then that the upcoming film is being used in a similar — and fashionable — capacity.

On Dec. 2, Force 4 Fashion will have its official launch in New York City in partnership with Kay Jewelers and Covergirl. Following the event, the pieces will be on full display at Bloomingdale's flagship store. While I mentioned a few of the designers above, a total of ten have committed to the creation of pieces with each designer pulling inspiration from certain characters in the upcoming film. Costume designer Michael Kaplan provided designers with early peeks of characters in order for designers to truly understand their essence.

Two samples of the designs will be created. While the first will be at Bloomingdales, the second will be placed for auction on Charity Buzz with proceeds set for benefit Child Mind Institute. An organization which assists children by finding more effective treatments for psychiatric and learning disorders.

To make you even more excited, I've got the sketches of the designer items for your sneek peak viewing pleasure!
