Olivia Wilde Wins Maternity Style

by Mary Avant

Ahh, awards show season. You never fail to amaze us, what with all of your wonderful and terrible outfits, your awkward red-carpet interviews, and your drunken celebrity acceptance speeches. And at last night’s 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards, you gave us something new and extra special to marvel over: a lesson in how to nail formal maternity style — or just amazing formal style in general — thanks to Olivia Wilde’s stunning emerald green getup.

Wilde, who is five months pregnant with funny man and fiancé Jason Sudeikis’s baby, was the envy of everyone’s eye at the Golden Globes ceremony, rocking a long-sleeve emerald sequin gown by Gucci. Adding to her smoking-hot look (as if she needed any additional hotness), Wilde opted for long, loose ombre waves; smokey eyes; and the perfect dose of understated jewelry. And the best part about her ensemble? She showed that you don't have to show a lot of skin to look super sexy.

Moms-to-be — and pretty much every other woman in existence — may have a new and justified reason to jealousy-hate on the gorgeous Wilde, as she definitively proved that moo-moos and stretch-waistband jeans aren’t the only pieces that should fill your wardrobe while waiting for baby.

And because practically half of Hollywood is pregnant right now, Wilde wasn’t the only expectant star on the red carpet last night (though she certainly had an easy time showing everyone else up). Kerry Washington whipped out her own style guns with this custom-made Balenciaga gown, calling her growing baby bump her “little accessory” and “the best date of the night.” (Although, let’s be serious, did you see Idris Elba? He has to be the best date in existence.)

Sadly, Drew Barrymore didn’t quite get the memo about amazing maternity style — or else she chose to simply ignore it, drowning herself in this floral Monique Lhuillier gown that certainly didn't do her any favors. But hey, we’ll forgive her this time: That red lip she wore was flawless, and she’s got plenty of time to redeem herself throughout the awards show season. And besides, they can’t all be Olivia Wildes, right?
