Shawn & Kaitlyn Are Awesome At Being Engaged

by Nicole Pomarico

I've never put very much stock in Bachelor relationships, mostly because The Bachelor curse is a very real thing. But this time, I feel totally different about Kaitlyn Bristowe and Shawn Booth. Now that it's been five months since their engagement went public, they seem to be even stronger as a couple... and if you follow them on Instagram, you know they are nauseatingly cute together. The franchise might not have the best track record when it comes to producing long lasting marriages, but I think it'll be different for these two. Why? Shawn and Kaitlyn are doing their engagement the right way.

I mean, I'm just as disappointed as the next person that they refuse to fill us in on when their wedding will be, but why rush? They have all the time in the world, especially if they want their relationship to last forever. And being that they seem so committed to each other, I'm pretty convinced that they can beat the reality show love curse if they stay on the path they're already on.

I'm not picking out baby names or anything, but Kaitlyn and Shawn definitely have a shot. Here's why I'm convinced — and it's not just because their engagement pictures are ridiculously gorgeous.

1. They're Taking Their Time

Marriage is in their future, but Kaitlyn and Shawn definitely seem to be taking their time getting there. And as much as I want to see their wedding (hopefully broadcast on ABC), it's smart of them to do things in their own time. You can't hurry love, y'all.

2. They Moved In Together First

As someone who elected to live with my now fiancé for almost two years before we got engaged, I've had the chance to see all of his annoying quirks and habits and decide if they are things I can live with (and they are). Now that Kaitlyn and Shawn are living together in Nashville, they have the same opportunity. I know it's not the right choice for all couples, but I have seen firsthand that it helps you figure out if this person is someone you can share a home with until you die.

3. Nobody Went On Dancing With The Stars directly after the show wrapped

I'm not saying this is why Chris Soules' engagement to Whitney Bischoff ended. But I'm also not saying that it's not why it ended. Let's be real: Days after popping the question to someone you barely know isn't really the best time to join another reality show, and I'm glad to see that Kaitlyn didn't fall into that particular trap — even though she would have been awesome on DWTS because she's already a dancer.

4. They Spend A Lot Of Time Together

In fact, they're practically attached at the hip, according to their social media accounts. For some people, this would be a death sentence, but for Kaitlyn and Shawn, it's giving them plenty of time to get to know each other.

5. They Understand This Isn't Like A Traditional Relationship

If you meet someone the old fashioned way, you know them pretty well before you get engaged — in most cases, anyway. Having a long engagement isn't always necessary, unless you're like me and super into wedding planning. But these two got engaged only weeks after meeting for the first time, and that means they both need to have a little extra patience with each other and their relationship as they figure out who they are as a couple, and what it means for the rest of their lives together. So far, so good.

6. They Both Want The Same Things

Kaitlyn and Shawn both began their Bachelorette journey (I'm sorry, even typing that made me sick) with the same end goal in mind: Marriage, kids, maybe even a white picket fence. Since they already want the same things, it cuts down on what would be relationship-ending disagreements for most couples, so this definitely helps. They're also both just crazy enough to think that reality love can last forever, and that kind of optimism and hope can help carry them through a lot of issues during their married life. All good signs!

I don't want to be too premature about this, but I feel like Shawn and Kaitlyn will be the next Sean and Catherine. Fingers crossed!
