The Makeup You Need For 2016's Beauty Trends

by Miki Hayes

As much as I loved the drag queen-inspired makeup trends of 2015, I'm pretty excited for what 2016 has to offer. And because the trends are changing pretty drastically in my opinion, you might want to switch up your makeup products for 2016's beauty trends. The biggest beauty trend to know to know this year? According to celebrity makeup artists, it's natural, glowing skin. Which means that it's time to trade out your contouring and baking powders for highlighters and illuminators. Of course, if a heavily sculpted face is your thing, do you. If, on the other hand, you want to try something different, there are some products that may be missing from your arsenal.

In addition to a natural-looking complexion, some trends for the eyes include a focus on lashes, smudged liner, and an incorporation of color. As for lips? Glossy, natural tones or a classic red lip will be hot this year. If you need a little product inspiration though (or, you know, a shopping list, because what's better than starting off the year with new makeup??), no worries. Here's everything for the face, eyes, and lips that you'll need to be on trend in 2016.

The Face

Smashbox L.A. Lights Blendable Lip & Cheek Color in Hollywood & Highlight, $29, smashbox.com

A cream highlight is perfect for a natural-looking glow. It can also be layered underneath a powder highlighter for a more intense, dewy look.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance, $34, lauramercier.com

Whether worn alone or under foundation, an illuminating primer will provide an ideal, glowing complexion.

Vapour Beauty Solar Translucent Bronzer, $36, shen-beauty.com

Dab on a cream bronzer for a sheer application of color, or apply it under foundation for an even subtler effect.

The Eyes

L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner, $8, target.com

An intense black liner that can be smoked out is perfect for spring's dark-rimmed eyes trend.

Kevyn Aucoin The Essential Mascara, $32, bergdorfgoodman.com

This lengthening and curling mascara will make it look like you've applied two coats with just one for defined, dramatic lashes.

Ardell DuraLash Individual Lashes, $4, target.com

Try individual lashes to add natural-looking drama.

Dior 5 Couleurs Glowing Gardens in Rose Garden, $63, nordstrom.com

A pastel smokey eye is not only on-trend for 2016, but a welcome change from ubiquitous neutrals.

NYX Slide On Pencil, $8, nyxcosmetics.com

For a pop of color, opt for a bright eyeliner such as a teal or violet.

The Lips

Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lipstick in Sugar Daddy, $22, toofaced.com

A soft, my-lips-but-better shade is perfect every year, but will be a staple in 2016.

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector, $25, clarinsusa.com

A sheer and shimmery lip-tint will enhance the natural appearance of lips.

Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lip Color SPF 16 in Classic Red, $10, target.com

You can never go wrong with a classic, red lip — especially this spring.

It's going to be a beautiful year.
