Rashida Jones' Real Parents Join 'Angie Tribeca'

by Caroline Gerdes

Steve and Nancy Carell’s new comedy, the satirical TBS series Angie Tribeca, stars Rashida Jones as the titular character, lone-wolf LAPD detective Angie Tribeca. And while the Carells may have created Tribeca, Jones’ real parents play a role on Angie Tribeca too. That's right, following in the footsteps of Aziz Ansari on Master of None, the star's own parents, Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton, will play her on-screen mom and dad.

The series is slated to premiere in an unusual way on Sunday, Jan. 17, with all 10 episodes playing in a 25-hour TV marathon. The Angie Tribeca marathon will also be commercial-free. And, TBS has already announced Angie Tribeca Season 2, premiering just one week later on Monday, Jan. 25, as reported by TVLine. However, Season 2 will kick it old school with weekly installments.

The innovative comedy series has already cast some pretty big guest stars, like James Franco, Bill Murray, Gary Cole, Sarah Chalke, Lisa Kudrow, Adam Scott, and Keegan-Michael Key. But, Jones’ parents are possibly the most-anticipated stars on the upcoming series. Why's that? Here's what you should know about Lipton and Quincy Jones, two huge celebrities in their own right.

You Know Jones’ Music

You’ve heard prolific musician and producer Quincy Jones’ music before. He has worked with musical legends like Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, and Frank Sinatra, to name a few.

Lipton Starred On The Mod Squad

The ‘60s crime series made her a TV favorite.

They Have Another Daughter Together, Kidada Jones

While Kidada and Rashida have half-siblings, they are the only two children from Quincy and Lipton's marriage. Perhaps Kidada could score a role on Angie Tribeca too?

You Also Know Lipton From Twin Peaks

Lipton played Norma from the Double R Diner on Twin Peaks. Fun fact, Zooey Deschanel’s mom Mary Jo also starred on the show.

She Has Style

Lipton is a retro icon. Maybe we'll get to see some of her fashion sense, and Quincy Jones' musical talent, when they appear on Angie Tribeca.
