Coldplay & Beyoncé's New Video Is Stunning

by Alex Kritselis

On Friday morning, pop super-group Coldplay premiered their "Hymn for the Weekend" music video — and it's absolutely stunning. "Hymn for the Weekend," which features Beyoncé, is the next single to be lifted from Coldplay's most recent album, A Head Full of the Dreams. Bey will join the band onstage at the upcoming Super Bowl 50 halftime show on Sun., Feb. 7, where they will undoubtedly perform the uplifting tune. From its first shot to its last, the Ben Mor–directed "Hymn for the Weekend" clip is a feast for the eyes. As you watch Coldplay frontman Chris Martin cruise around a busy city's streets, passing beautiful buildings and lush green scenery, you're likely to wonder: "Where was Coldplay's 'Hymn for the Weekend' video filmed?"

According to USA Today, India's most populous city, Mumbai, provides the gorgeous backdrop for the visual.

The Mumbai Mirror reports that Coldplay shot "Hymn for the Weekend" in October 2015 at various locations in and around Mumbai. The colorful powder that children cover Martin and the rest of the band with in the video is often associated with Holi, a Hindu religious festival which takes place in the spring. In addition to Coldplay and Beyoncé, the clip also features a cameo from Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor. Check it out below.

Sadly, it doesn't appear as though Beyoncé was able to join Coldplay in Mumbai last October to film "Hymn for the Weekend," as she never shares the screen with the group. (Something tells me she has a pretty busy schedule. I mean... she's Beyoncé.) The 34-year-old singer's scenes in front of a vibrant wall of flowers are some of the treatment's most dazzling, though they may spark accusations of cultural appropriation.

"Adventure of a Lifetime," the lead single from Coldplay's aforementioned A Head Full of Dreams LP, only managed to reach No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after it was released in November 2015. Fortunately, armed with a striking video and what I can only assume will be a show-stopping performance at the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, I think "Hymn for the Weekend" will become a much bigger hit.

A Head Full of Dreams is available on iTunes and Spotify now.
