The Super Bowl Halftime Moment You Have To See

by Rachel Simon

When it was first announced that Coldplay would headline the 2016 Super Bowl halftime show, many people were less than thrilled, to say the least. The performance is typically given by a singer or group known for being exciting and unanimously loved, and the Chris Martin-fronted band is, well, neither of those things. Still, the prospect of a Coldplay-centric show got better once it was announced that Beyonce and Bruno Mars would be joining — and as all those who tuned in on Sunday night saw, the halftime show ended up being one memorable occasion thanks to the reveal of Beyonce's Formation Tour.

Although much of the performance was notable — there was Coldplay singing fan-favorite song "Viva La Vida", Beyonce doing a dance-off with Bruno Mars, the biggest moment of the show actually occurred right after it ended. At halftime's conclusion, an ad appeared advertising Beyonce's Formation Tour, which will take place sometime later this year and have a presale beginning this month. The news came just one day after the release of "Formation," a new Beyonce single that pretty much broke the internet upon its release.

The news of a new Beyonce tour is huge, and it came as the culmination to an impressive, exciting Super Bowl halftime show that featured several of music's biggest stars: Coldplay, Bruno Mars, and of course, Bey. Although there wasn't any one "major" moment from the actual show — no Beyonce album release or pregnancy announcement, as some speculated there would be — the performance was well-done and enjoyable, a truly solid show that lived up to expectations.

But of course, nothing could compare to the excitement that came about when Beyonce's tour announcement was revealed. It's safe to say that the ad is the one moment from Sunday's halftime show that you're going to be re-watching again and again, during the days leading up to buying your tickets.
