14 Hilarious Presidents' Day Memes

by Chelsey Grasso

With 2016 being a presidential election year, you would think that American citizens might be a little more apt to recognizing and celebrating Presidents' Day this year. However, there just seems to be something about the third Monday of every February that catches people off-guard, just as these hilarious Presidents' Day memes indicate.

Most people probably don't even know what the deal is with Presidents' Day, and rightly so, because it has a confusing history. George Washington's birthday falls on Feb. 22 and Abraham Lincoln's birthday falls on Feb. 12, each of which used to be celebrated separately. Presidents' Day, which conveniently falls on a Monday, kind of meshes these two special occasions together, and serves as a nationwide holiday to celebrate any and all past and present presidents.

So are we celebrating the first president of the United States on Presidents' Day? Yes. Are we also celebrating the other 43 men (and hopefully in the near future... women!) who have taken the role of guiding this country's politics? Yes. I'm not saying you have to spend the day writing "thank you" letters to President Obama, but at least now you know why you have Monday off (or should have it off, if you don't). Now enjoy some memes.

Educational, but in a much different way.

Be thankful for democracy, you know?

Timing, as they say, is everything.

We've all been there.

If you Google it, that's cheating.

That's an order.

Um, yes! Always.

Someone is a little confused about what this holiday is all about...

But I mean, if it comes to that, so be it.

Do you have the day off? Do you not? No one ever really knows.

Presidents party too.

It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating Valentine's Day.

The TRUE reason why Presidents' Day is important.

Seriously though, it's a good question.
