Master The Classic Notting Hill London Look

by Irma Elezovic

In many ways, "posh" and "London" are essentially synonymous. Think: Victorian townhouses, secluded gardens, and high-end shopping. When you picture the most luxurious neighborhoods, it's easy to imagine how stylish the residents must be. Enter Notting Hill, a region in West London filled with celebrity hotspots, cutting-edge galleries, and, of course, the most polished street style you've ever seen.

And while the "Upper East Side" of London is known for its ritzy reputation, the neighborhood still feels authentic and artsy. For starters, it attracts thousands of people to its world-famous street festival, the Notting Hill Carnival. This fascinating, two-day spectacle celebrates the capital's Caribbean communities through live music, authentic food, and avant-garde costumes. And then you have the Portobello Road Market, a crowded street market known for its antique memorabilia and trendy, secondhand finds. Basically, you have an eclectic neighborhood filled with vintage and luxury shopping, celebrities, and a heavy dose of well-deserved fame that has people trotting from all over the world to visit.

So if your next vacation happens to be in the southeastern region of the U.K., you're in luck! We've teamed up with Rimmel London to give you everything you need to know when it comes to shopping, exploring, and wearing the Notting Hill look like a true local.

What To Do...

If you're thinking about visiting London and planning it months in advance, we recommend swinging by in August. This way you can experience the Notting Hill Carnival, which happens to be Europe's largest street festival. Any other time of the year you can check out Portobello Road Market to indulge in some thrift shopping, or take a beautiful stroll in Holland Park. The park is surrounded by gardens and sporting facilities, and it runs a series of cultural events throughout the year.

What To Wear...

Notting Hill screams high fashion yet manages to be simultaneously modern and chic. The style is polished with classic tailored pieces, pastel colors, and always-chic kitten heels. But if your approach is a bit more risqué, pair a flirty A-line skirt with an off-the-shoulder peasant top. Finish the look with any type of structured bag. Try a satchel, a cross-body, or even a tiny mini — whatever works best for you. Then you're ready to hit the cobblestone streets!

Getting The London Look...

A Notting Hill-approved beauty look is natural but not completely bare. So what exactly does that entail? A salon-quality blowout, perfectly groomed brows, loads of mascara, and just the right amount of highlighter on your cheekbones. You'll want a luminizing product that provides more of a subtle sheen and less of a noticeable shimmer (try Rimmel London's Kate Sculpting Palette).

Then apply a nude lipstick that won't wash you out. Rimmel London's The Only 1 Lipstick in "Naughty Nude" is a little nude, a tad pink, and insanely flattering on all skin tones.
