Hannigan's Teaming up with Affleck & Damon

by Alanna Bennett

Lilly Aldrin and Co. will be saying their goodbyes in the How I Met Your Mother series finale at the end of March, but that will hopefully be far from the end of the line for the show's spectacular cast. Luckily for us all the next steps are lining up nicely: Neil Patrick Harris is already in rehearsals for his Broadway return Hedwig and the Angry Inch — and now Alyson Hannigan's signed on to Matt Damon and Ben Affleck-produced CBS pilot More Time With the Family.

Hannigan's one of those rare actors who's broken out multiple times in her career with memorable performances, from her raunchy band geek role in American Pie, to nerdy witch Willow Rosenberg in Buffy the Vampire Slayer ("Bored now"? Iconic.), to her longest-running role as Lilly in How I Met Your Mother. Here's the description for her next show, via The Hollywood Reporter:

Hannigan will co-star opposite Tom Papa in the multicamera comedy about a husband and father (Papa) who makes a career change in order to spend more time with his family. The actress will play Cindy Rizzo, Tom’s wife, who is described as an amazing mother who runs the house like a drill sergeant and has endless energy. She’s tasked with trying to teach Tom how to handle the family.

Let's hope Damon and Affleck treat Hannigan well, because that sounds a bit run-of-the-mill to me — doesn't exactly have the same kick as "inversion of horror movie tropes with a high school twist" or "man takes nine years to tell his kids a story." But we'll give it a chance, if only because of Hannigan's powerful charms and because Affleck and/or Damon behind the scenes of this intrigues us.

Meanwhile, let's all be sad with Hannigan over the last How I Met Your Mother table read. Because it may be about damn time, but we also have the sneaking suspicion we're gonna have some things to say and/or cry about this finale.
