Could This Be Your New Favorite Show?

by Kristie Rohwedder

Womp it UP! The wait is almost over: Playing House will premiere April 29. Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham’s new comedy for USA Network was picked up last year, but up until today, we didn’t know exactly when it’d be available for our viewing pleasure. But! The date has been set and I am counting down the days until St. Clair and Parham are on my TV once again (a mere two months!!!).

Why am I so excited about Playing House? Because it’s going to be great, doye. You want more specific reasons? You got it.

Jessica St. Clair & Lennon Parham

You've probably seen St. Clair and Parham in a number of things: You might recognize Parham as Don Draper’s realtor or St. Clair as Dana on VEEP. Or you might've been a fan of the wonderful program that was Best Friends Forever. Or you might be a Comedy Bang! Bang! listener. If you've ever watched/heard St. Clair and Parham, you know that they are two brilliant goddesses.

The Upright Citizens Brigade alumni are mega-talented writers, improvisors, and actors. And whaddya know? The two mega-talents created and star in Playing House. Neat, huh?

A TV show led by women? Please and thank you. No such thing as "too many TV shows led by women." Give me all of the lady-led TV shows.

It's A Buddy Comedy

So, what is the show about? A very pregnant Maggie (Parham) finds out that her hubby is cheating on her. Her husband leaves her. So, Emma (St. Clair) drops everything in order to help her BFF with raising her baby. Hey, way to go above an beyond with the friendshipness, Emma. Friendship never ennnnnds!

And though parts of the premise sound a little sad, they show is a comedy, and I don't doubt for a second that it'll be funny. St. Clair and Parham are so freakin' hilarious.

They’re Friends IRL, And It's Obvi

The real-life friends met over a decade ago at UCB NY when they were taking improv classes. “We were both normal-looking girls in proper sweater sets with a penchant for doing comedy in a dirty basement,” they told Glamour in 2012. “It was friends at first sight.”

They are true-blue friends, and they have amazing chemistry. The kind of chemistry that can’t be faked. The kind of chemistry that takes years of true friendship to cultivate. The kind of chemistry that takes all of their onscreen interactions to the next level.

Best Friends Forever

Real talk: I cried when the short-lived comedy series was cancelled. Fortunately, Best Friends Forever's sad fate didn't discourage St. Clair and Parham, and they're giving TV another go.

Put a pin in whatever you're doing and watch Best Friends Forever right now.

A Wonderful Supporting Cast/Wonderful Guest Stars

Keegan Micahel Key, Zach Woods, Jane Kaczmarek, Bobby Moynihan, Ian Roberts, Lindsay Sloan, and Jason Mantzoukas are just a few of the names that’ll drop by Playing House. Some will be recurring, others will be guest stars. All of them are AWESOME.

Marissa Wompler and Miss Listler

Okay, if for some reason any of the above didn't sell you on Playing House, listen to all of St. Clair and Parham's Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast appearances. If Marissa Wompler and Miss Listler don't make you fall in love with St. Clair and Parham, please see a doctor. Ask the doctor to check if your body has been overthrown by a parasite that hates all things hysterical and entertaining. A parasite who has one mission: to stop you from appreciating comedic magic.
