Kristen Stewart Approves Of The Jane Bond Idea

by Michelle Lulic

"It's Bond, Jane Bond." That has to be one of my most-anticipated movie character phrases to date. As much as I love James Bond, I think it's about time that a woman takes on the spy position — and not just as a Bond girl. In a recent red carpet interview with the Twilight actress, Kristen Stewart talked about a female James Bond, and what she had to say about how to turn James Bond into a woman in a way that made sense and would put a fresh twist on the mythos was pure genius. I seriously need to see this happen.

“You start off as the Bond girl and then you think it’s just the girlfriend and then you’re like, ‘She’s actually [Bond],’” Stewart explained to E! News. “In the trailer, it’s him and then [a] bait and switch.” Genius, right? And totally possible. Although Stewart didn't weigh in on whether or not she thought that she might be a good fit for the role, her idea in-and-of itself is something that movie studios should take note of. An unexpected switch such as that one would not only be incredibly empowering, but it would also take the ways in which female characters are portrayed in the franchise by storm.

Now, of course, some essential fundamentals of the movie may need to be changed in order for this to happen. For example, if the name Jane Bond is going to stick, then perhaps she can't really be James' Bond girl? Instead, she could be a mysterious spy James meets along the way who assists him — that James doesn't actually hook-up with (Shocking, right?). That would leave the Bond name open for a possible sister, cousin, or long-lost relative from the family line. But, alas, there's always the concept of marriage and a possible last name change in the cards as well, if, perhaps, both James and Jane Bond would be co-existing in the films.

However, there could still be one other way. If the introduction of a female Bond doesn't involve Jane becoming James' love interest, then perhaps Jane Bond could also be James' daughter. I mean, if Daniel Craig somehow agreed to do another film, he's certainly old enough to have a fully grown daughter, and him passing his spy duties onto his daughter would be amazing. Anything to get classic James Bond fans into the theater, even though I'm pretty sure that, at this point, that Hollywood can assume lead actresses can draw their own audience.

Stewart, you are definitely onto something. Bring on the Bond boys.
