Tweets From Baton Rouge Residents Are Chilling

Another outbreak of violence made headlines after multiple police officers were shot in Baton Rouge. According to the Associated Press, three officers were killed and more are injured following the shooting, which took place near Airline Highway on Sunday morning. Baton Rouge residents' tweets from the shootings showed a heavy police presence in the area following the incident, as well as reports that law officials were asking everyone in the area to remain indoors as the shooting was still being investigated.

Local Baton Rouge news station WAFB reported that the shots had been fired near a B-Quik convenience store off of Airline Highway. Parts of the road were blocked off in both lanes as police continued their investigation. It is still unclear what instigated the violence. In a statement he released on Twitter, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards called the shooting an "unspeakable and unjustified attack on all of us at a time when we need unity and healing." Earlier this month, Airline Highway was the site of protests following the death of 37-year-old Alton Sterling, who was shot and killed by Baton Rouge police.

Residents in Baton Rouge were tweeting from around the scene as police continued to look into what happened.
