'Alexander IRL' Looks Hilarious

by Jordana Lipsitz

In case you need a laugh on this Monday morning, the new teaser trailer for indie teen comedy, Alexander IRL is here. Alexander IRL, which just began shooting near the end of July 2016, stars 23-year-old Nathan Kress from iCarly (isn't it super weird that Freddie's old enough to legally drink now?) and Brent Rivera of Vine fame. Basically, the teaser trailer just entails the camera simply following our teen hero down the hallway of his school as he struts, high-fiving people, and taking selfies like the party star he is. It doesn't tell viewers a whole lot about the movie, but that doesn't stop me from being super interested in what could happen. The soundtrack song, "We're On Fire" by Airplane Man, fits the rocking vibe so perfectly.

The movie will tell the story of two brothers — one in high school (Rivera) and one a former high school hero working at a venture capital shop (Kress) — who get together with the teen's coder friends (who are played by Black-ish star Marcus Scribner and Bo Mitchell of Eastbound and Down) to throw a huge party to gain popularity. The older brother only agrees to help out because he has dreams of being the next Mark Zuckerberg, and because he overhears his boss speaking with General Electric about an innovation competition. Thus, the scheme is his attempt to get some coding help in exchange for helping to throw the party.

Though this movie is an indie, it doesn't seem like the audience is going to be small in the slightest, if for no other reason than that the cast is hugely popular: Rivera has 5.1 million followers on Facebook, 3.3 million on Instagram, 8.5 million on Vine, and more than 2 million each on Twitter, YouTube and Musical.ly. Meanwhile, Kress has 2.5 million followers on Twitter and 1.7 million Instagram.

Get excited, guys. From the looks of the teaser trailer, this movie will be hilarious.
