Rep. Beatty Plagiarizes Melania Trump At The DNC

by Yvonne Juris

Rep. Joyce Beatty, a United States Representative for Ohio, took to the DNC stage in grand attire, wearing what appears to be the same dress that Melania Trump wore to the Republican National Convention. And the Congresswoman may not be known as a model, but she sure did rock the renaissance-looking, balloon-sleeved dress.

Beatty, who has been in Congress since 2013 and was also a member of the Ohio Hose of Representatives from 1999 to 2008, was recently in the public eye for demanding that Congress work together to address the Zika virus after 14 cases broke out in Ohio. But this time she was in the news for an entirely different reason.

Congresswoman Beatty bestowed much praise on Hillary Clinton in her DNC speech, saying that "she cares deeply about each and every American: no matter what you look like, where you are from, or who you love," and contrasted Clinton with Trump, whom she called "the most divisive and ill-prepared candidate we’ve seen in modern times." But more eyes than ears were on Beatty, as people began instantly tweeting about her dress, jokingly asking if she was committing (gasp) "dress plagiarism"? And, well, it sure appeared intentional.

Melania Trump broke the internet when former CNN intern Jarret Hill, made the observation that the speech bore an odd resemblance to Michelle Obama's 2008 DNC speech. Many outlets agreed with Hill that Melania Trump's speech had plagiarized from Michelle Obama's address and it caused yet another controversy for the Trump campaign. A member of the Trump Organization owned up to writing the speech, stating that Melania Trump had given her a few quotes that inspired her, and they inadvertently made their way into the speech.

So now comes the gossip magazine question that all celebs have to endure: Who wore it better?
