Is "Let Me Love You" A Justin & Selena Duet?

by Daniela Cabrera

The Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez saga has been a part of Hollywood since Jelena first started dating in 2011. The two lovebirds have broken up, made up, and broken up again, and teased fans over the years with secret hangouts and cryptic social media posts. (They must get a thrill out of it, right?) As always, their fans have been anxiously waiting for any sign that the two might be in communication, and a big hint came when Gomez posted a Snapchat of herself singing "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake, which is an upcoming track the DJ recorded with Justin Bieber. Hmm. Could Bieber and Gomez have recorded a duet? Have they spoken about this before? Let's figure this out!

The last time these two were spotted in the same vicinity was when Gomez attended Bieber's Purpose Tour in Los Angeles in March, and there were rumors that she visited him backstage. A few months earlier, both Gomez and Bieber were busy promoting their huge album releases, for Revival and Purpose, respectively, which meant that the subject of their relationship came up quite a bit. In that huge whirlwind, OVO Sounds Radio shared "Strong," a Bieber and Gomez collaboration that was rumored to be on his Purpose album.

Alas, the song was quickly erased and never actually appeared on Purpose. A source told Entertainment Tonight at the time that "Strong" was actually recorded about three years prior, when they were still together. Gasp! This got me thinking: Since they seem to have wanted to work together in the past, is "Let Me Love You" the first official collaboration between Gomez and Bieber? There are strong hints that it could be.

Although Gomez's Snapchat clip is only two seconds, you can definitely hear that the chorus is the same as the Bieber version DJ Snake teased on July 27:

According to Elle, DJ Snake allegedly confirmed to a fan via social media that Gomez had recorded her own version of the song and he allegedly liked a tweet from a fan who tweeted their guess that song will feature both Bieber and Gomez. DJ Snake allegedly since deleted the tweet and the favorite. (Bustle has reached out to DJ Snake's rep for comment on the alleged tweet and "like," but has not yet heard back.)

In the past few months, both Gomez and Bieber have been busy with their respective careers, but in promoting their albums and tours, they had very supportive and promising things to say about the future of their relationship, whether friendly or romantic.

In November 2015, Bieber appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show and spoke about the possibly of making up with Gomez. He said,

"We have a lot of history together and I am sure it could possibly happen... I think we are both just on our own journeys and figuring ourselves out and I think maybe once we figure ourselves out we can comeback and make an awesome duo."

By "duo" did he mean "duet?" A song together could actually be a really genius way to please their fans and benefit each of their own careers, don't you think? In an Elle cover story in September 2015, Gomez said, "I'll forever support him and love him in a way that... We grew up together... I respect him. And I think he respects me, in a healthy manner." A duet might be a way to support each other without actually having to be together.

Gomez and Bieber have matured on their own, and they might finally be ready to confront their past relationship, handle it in an adult way, and move on. If a fun song collaboration is the way for them to do that, why not? It won't be the most controversial thing these two have done together and it will definitely get people talking. You know they like that.
