Pharrell Gets Help on 'Spiderman 2' Soundtrack

by Kenya Foy

Other than exciting visuals, ongoing romance, and action-packed heroic rescues, what else can you expect from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ? A soundtrack with a kick-ass song titled "It's On Again," featuring Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, Kendrick Lamar and German-composer Hans Zimmer. With musical powerhouses of this magnitude joining forces on a single track, they're pretty much guaranteed to produce a masterpiece. Needless to say, I'm super excited about this collaboration and have already begun speculating on what the song will sound like.

Picture it-- April 22, 2014. Music stores all over the U.S.

Sounds reminiscent of Pharrell's most recent release GIRL will overload our senses. They'll be just as groovy as his duets "Get Lucky" with Daft Punk or "Know Who You Are" with Keys, but infused with more drama and turned up a notch or 10. When K. Dot offers up his verse(s), tons of Lamar-esque energy will completely transform the song, making us feel revitalized just like his Grammy performance with Imagine Dragons.

Taking a quick peek at Alicia Keys' soundtrack catalogue lets us know her contribution will be nothing short of amazing. "Rock Wit U" from the 2000 movie Shaft still conjures up my inner Foxy Brown. Then she joined Jack Black on "Another Way to Die" from the 2008 James Bond film Quantum of Solace, creating the first duet of the entire Bond film series. And more recently, she contributed a song to the soundtrack for Oscar-winning film 12 Years a Slave.

Lamar's clout has arguably strengthened after he rattled cages and jolted the hip-hop industry, so I can only imagine what lyrical trickery his Spiderman-themed verses will contain. And if everyone doesn't already know by now, Williams and Zimmer obviously have the Department of Writing Successful Songs on speed-dial.Aside from all the guessing, what we do know is that the song will close the film and will be "upbeat and exciting," according to the film's director Marc Webb. Whatever the final result is, I'm sure it'll have us climbing the walls.
