How Many Patronuses Are On Pottermore?

If you're a Potterhead, then you've probably long since taken the Patronus quiz on Pottermore by now. The interactive experience launched on Sep. 22 after much anticipation from the fandom, linking all of us with our own frolicking wisps of creatures to protect us from harm. But just how many Patronuses can Harry Potter fans get on Pottermore? If you scroll down the Twitter feed of people proudly announcing their results, the list seems straight up infinite. A lot of fans are scratching their heads, wondering just how many possible combinations of answers there could be to result in what looks like countless Patronuses. But how are we as humble Potterheads supposed to math all of that based on questions we barely saw before we answered them?

Turns out that there is (GASP) more than one version of the quiz, which is the reason why all the different variations of the Patronuses exist. I know this because I have two separate Pottermore accounts (FOR THE GLORY OF JOURNALISM, chill, guys), and I was definitely presented with two different rounds of questions. (Oddly, though, in both of them I ended up with some variation of horse, which pleases me immensely.) No word on what triggers separate quizzes, but this Potterhead is wondering if it has anything to do with the House you've been previously sorted into.

So if there are multiple versions of the quiz, how many possible results are there? Bustle e-mailed with a Pottermore spokesperson, and they aren't releasing that information, alas. But if anything, that just keeps the ~magic~ of the experience in tact.

As for the list of Patronuses discovered so far, they tend to fall into three categories: common, unusual, and rare. The common Patronuses include variations of dogs, horses, and bird; the unusual ones are animals we see in the Muggle world beyond that, like sharks, lionesses, and types of owls; the rare Patronuses include magical creatures like hippogriffs, runespoors, and unicorns. The thing that they all have in common, of course, is that they are majestic AF.

“We are so delighted to be bringing J.K. Rowling’s most famous spell magically to life on Pottermore, for everyone to enjoy and discover their authentic Patronus, for free," said Pottermore CEO Susan L. Jurevics in a press release. "It’s been fantastic working with J.K. Rowling and our creative and development teams to realize her vision, using the latest technology to create this little piece of magic for our site.”
