Memes About DST That Prove It Makes Sense

by Chelsey Grasso

What are you doing this Nov. 6? Hopefully turning back your clocks, because the end of Daylight Saving Time is upon us: At 2 a.m., the clocks jump back one hour, and they'll stay that way until Daylight Saving Time begins again next March. Yes, that means you get to enjoy an extra hour of sleep. Amazing, right? As these memes about Daylight Saving Time ending make pretty clear, yes, it is.

The reason we turn our clocks back in the fall has to do with the amount of sunlight we're able to productively use each day. According to The Huffington Post, it was Benjamin Franklin who first hinted at the idea of Daylight Saving Time in 1784. Franklin actually acknowledged how getting up an hour earlier in the spring — "spring forward," if you will — would be a challenge for people, but he believed that the payoff would be, ultimately, worth it. When we set our clocks ahead an hour in the spring, we're providing ourselves with an extra hour of daylight in the evening. As for fall — well, "fall back"? It's simply as resetting the system.

Celebrate Daylight Saving Time in all its glory, both by taking advantage of that extra hour of sleep and by checking out these 11 funny DST memes that make light of the entire time change process. Enjoy it, you guys — it's the only day of the year that you really get to "go back in time."
