What the Models Are Wearing This Spring

by Mary Avant

Whether we like to admit it or not, we have a love-hate relationship with supermodels. We love their beautiful bodies, stunning faces, legs for day, ability to look good in practically anything, and penchant for dating some of the sexiest men in Hollywood. But at the same time, we hate their beautiful bodies, stunning faces, legs for days, ability to look great in everything, and extremely fortunate dating habits. But whether we love them, hate them, or just want to be them, one thing is for sure: We definitely want their wardrobes.

So when the hottest models of the moment are stepping out en masse on red carpets across the globe, we’re ready to take note of what they’re wearing and how we can get the look, too. And this week gave us a ton of chances to learn from the best, as everyone from Coco Rocha and Alessandra Ambrosio to Alek Wek and Chanel Iman was out and about showing of her spring wardrobe in style. And lucky for us, we not only got a peek at five model must-haves for spring, but also a lesson in how to wear them. Ready to create your own model-approved wardrobe for the spring season? Then check out the five essentials below.

1. A structured dress

Sure, Rocha’s long-sleeved, tea-length dress may seem a little stuffy for the new season, but it’s the structured shoulders, impeccable fit, and peplum waist that are the real details to carry into spring. Try a similarly tailored look in a pretty spring hue — like pastel pink, soft yellow, or a classic white — for a feminine ensemble that’s chic and sweet.

2. A monochrome ensemble

Drenching yourself in one hue from head to toe is one of the simplest ways to make a bold statement this spring, and it doesn’t hurt if the ensemble includes a barely-there crop top, curve-hugging pencil skirt, and super-chic coat like Ambrosio's.

3. An edgy wrap dress

If crop tops aren’t your thing but you don’t want to settle for a simple spring wrap dress, make like Iman and choose a cutout wrap dress with a major (and majorly sexy) edge. Rock a nude heel to anchor a boldly colored ensemble, or if you’re opting for a darker hue, lighten things up with a bright or patterned heel and statement accessories.

4. A mod shift dress

A dress like this will never go out of style, but it’s especially perfect for spring when you don a checked pattern in a neon shade, like Wek’s hot pink. Keep it seasonal with a bright lip, and be sure to have fun by injecting color and print into your shoes, bag, and other accessories.

5. A sweet spring coat

Perfect for those breezy spring days or slightly cool nights out, a tailored, lightweight coat like model Julie Henderson’s will work with any spring outfit, whether it’s a fun dress or a casual jeans-and-tee combo. Opt for an on-trend pastel shade to keep things simple, or turn up the volume with a spring-ready print.
