As If! 10 Major Fashion Lessons From 'Clueless'

So many of the movies we loved growing up become sorta terrible with an adult viewing. But Clueless? Like a fine wine, it just gets better with time. Now that the iconic film is turning 18, we're discussing the life lessons it taught us — and how it schooled us in fashion. There's no excuse not to listen up. No, not even running to the quad before someone snags your Cranberries CD.

OK, so you're probably going, "Is this like a Noxzema commercial or what?"

A good makeover can change all

Show me a better makeover montage than Clueless. No, really. Just try. That's what I thought. Tai, like, totally had way potential, but it took a makeover for her to find it. As Clueless reminds us, makeovers aren't about becoming a new person — after all, Tai didn't just become a Cher clone. They're about becoming the best you that you can be. Corny? Yes. But it's true.

If Calvin Klein says it's OK to wear, it is

Um, dad, they wouldn't make the dress if you weren't supposed to wear it. Duh. If you ever have qualms about something being too sexy, but you completely love it, take a note from Cher. If someone with taste made it, then it should be worn.

A good hat can change everything

Need I say more? Without the headwear, these are some pretty basic outfits, but the hats — especially Dion's — change everything.

Digitized closets need to happen, like, yesterday

That digitized closets are not a requirement for all apartments and homes everywhere is what's wrong with the world. Can we get a Kickstarter going for this very important technological advancement?

You never want to be "a Monet"

Cher describes Amber as a Monet: "From far away, it’s OK, but up close, it’s a big old mess." When you're getting ready, make sure you're paying attention to the details, not just the big picture. Is your shirt wrinkled? Are your pants stained? These little things add up to make you a Monet.

Office accessories can be fashionable, too

Just because you're working doesn't mean you can't have fun. Fuzzy pens can write just as well as regular pens, but they have a helluva lot more fun doing it.

Alaia is " like a totally important designer.”

If you're interested in fashion, it's vital that you have an opinion about which designers are important to you. For Cher, it was all about Alaia. Do your research and find the designer you'd fight for in a mugging.

Simple is better… even if you're on a date with a gay guy

Alright, so, things didn't work out for Cher and Christian (but that's okay, because she was totally, buzz-crazy in love with Josh!). Still, Cher still knew that the best date outfits are understated sexy. This simple red dress is certainly flirty, but it's not too out there.

It's totally OK to match

Don't freak if you and your best friend wear similar outfits! It just shows that y'all love each other.

You can still look good while you're working out

Even at the gym, you can still have fun with your outfit. Oh, and, if you've just had rhinoplasty it's okay to take a few days off from working out.
