Stop Assuming Miley Cyrus Overdosed

by Kaitlin Reilly

Rumors have been swirling about Miley Cyrus' hospital stay, but she's here to set the record straight. Miley was admitted to the hospital earlier last month for what she said was an allergic reaction to the antibiotics that she was taking for a sinus infection. Of course, that wasn't good nearly juicy enough for the speculators out there, who thought that perhaps she was fronting an allergy in order to cover up a secret drug overdose. Now, Miley is coming out and saying that, uh, no, she didn't overdose. She told the press:

I didn't have a drug overdose. I took some shitty antibiotics that a doctor gave me for a sinus infection and I had a reaction... I'm probably the only one on this tour who doesn't drink or smoke before a show, as I take this really seriously.

While I do believe Miley had an allergic reaction to antibiotics (I've been there and believe me, those reactions are not fun) I also think she needs to understand why people were so quick to believe that she could have had a drug issue. Miley talks more about her love of marijuana than a high college freshman, and while she may proclaim that "weed has never killed anybody" it's not the only drug she celebrates. She's made it clear that while she's not a fan of coke, she looooves her some molly (better known as MDMA), which is a little less inconspicuous than, say, lighting up on stage at the MTV Europe Awards.

Unfortunately, there's a darker side to her "I love drugs!" proclamations. Her openness about her drug use means that people are going to speculate. Whenever she's in trouble, or ill, or pulled over for something as simple as a broken taillight, people will recall her admission of drug use and wonder if they caused her harm. It's not fair, at all, but these "Miley's on drug" rumors are some she's going to unnecessarily face now, as well as in the future.

Stay strong, girl.
