'Whose Line's Aisha Tyler is Our New Crush

by Anam Syed

Improv comedy nerds are no stranger to The CW's Whose Line Is It Anyway?, the game show where "everything's made up and the points don't matter." The program has a pretty storied history from its inception to its current incarnation, featuring its ever first female host, Aisha Tyler. Beginning as a British radio program, it was originally hosted by Clive Anderson, who took the show to its initial television version, including the first one shot in the US. His gig was taken over by Drew Carey for ABC, with that version of the show running successfully for eight seasons. The show has been revived once again, and we couldn't be happier that Tyler is now at the helm.

Women have long been blowing up on the improv scene, with fan favorites such as Amy Poehler regarded as leaders in the field. Saturday Night Live even scoured the improv circuit recently for a new black female cast member, before finally settling on Sasheer Zamata of Poehler's own Upright Citizens Brigade. Tyler herself is quite accomplished in the hosting and comedy realm, including landing her own comedy special Aisha Tyler is Lit and dating not one, but two of the gents on Friends , as well as numerous hosting gigs such as E!'s Talk Soup.

Here's everything you need to know about Tyler to fall totally into crush-territory (and no, it's not just because she can rock a sweet tailored pantsuit).

1. She's Got A Great Sense Of Humor About Her Body and Image As A Woman Of Color

If you've ever been worried about not having a shapely rear-end (it's supposed to be not too big and voluptuous at the same time? Seriously, give us a break!), Tyler has got you covered. Her proud proclamation "No Ass At All" is the anti-"Baby Got Back." Load it up on your ipod and strut those streets.

2. She's Lana on Archer

LANAAA. That's a cry familiar to any fan of FX's animated show. Lana's a sassy, take-no-prisoners spy who's way more competent than her on-again, off-again partner (and pretty much everyone else around her). Tyler brings both strength and a wry sarcasm to the character. Her collection of dry 'yups' and 'nopes' are the subject of Archer fan videos all over the Internet— and rightly so.

3. She's A Super Gamer (And No, She Doesn't Take Dude Sass)

"You think you know? You don't fucking know." That's a line from Tyler's 'Dear Gamers' letter in response to the dudes who questioned whether a black woman could be a "real" gamer. It's a battle cry for nerdy girls everywhere, and her kickass finale dedicated "to every illiterate racist douchebag on youtube" will have you fist pumping despite yourself.

4. She Told Kanye to Speed It Up

Recognize the gal playing poker in Kanye's "Slow Jamz" video? Why it's none other than Tyler, who also guests on the track to introduce Twista, asking Kanye to "do it faster," with Kanye tossing the speed off to his fellow rapper.

5. She Brewed All of the Beer for Her Own Wedding

In an interview with pop culture website Hobo Trashcan, Tyler talks about her love of home brewing and beer in general, mentioning that she loves the math of figuring out where a beer might need more hops, or if a brew could use some chocolate. In the interview, she goes on to say that she really wishes she could brew more, but indulges in the hobby less now that she's rocking at least three jobs at a time.

Writer, comedian, cartoon badass: basically, she's unstoppable. We're hoping to see much more of Tyler very soon, through a television adaptation of her raw and funny book Self-Inflicted Wounds . Until then, we'll just have satiate ourselves with one of her other gigs.
