'TFiOS' Met 'OITNB' & It Was Great

by Alanna Bennett

June 6 was a great day for new releases: If you weren't into the concept of crying in public you could stay home and binge Orange Is The New Black's second season, and if you were you could head to a theater and see the big screen adaptation of John Green's The Fault In Our Stars. For many, like this writer, it happily included both. For any camp, though — detractors and lovers-of-both alike — Orange Is the New Black 's Fault In Our Stars shout-out was a thing of beauty. And John Green liked it especially hard!

The reference came in the ninth episode of Orange Is the New Black's second season, "40 OZ of Furlough," and had Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) offering to let Rosa (Barbara Rosenblat), an inmate suffering from cancer, borrow the book.

Green, who's a self-proclaimed Orange Is the New Black fan (he's mentioned it multiple times in Vlogbrothers videos), responded to the mention with a simple "HIGHLIGHT OF MY LIFE." We feel that, John Green: It would also have been the highlight of my lives if Orange Is the New Black deigned to acknowledge my existence. Even if they called me a sick bastard.
