Where is the 'Forrest Gump' Cast Today?

by Rachel Simon

Despite being a Best Picture winner, a blockbuster success, and one of the most critically acclaimed films of the last few decades, Forrest Gump is a pretty controversial movie. For every person who cries at Jenny's death and visits Bubba Gump's on the regular, there's someone who thinks the movie's melodramatic, corny, and far too overrated. Still, the fact is, no matter how many different opinions the movie may garner, one thing holds true: everyone has seen Forrest Gump.

Released in 1994 (20 years old on July 6!), Forrest Gump instantly became one of those movies people just had to see, whether or not they wanted to. Ten weeks at number one, reviews calling it "epic" and "a masterpiece," an A-list cast that suddenly became superstars: it was impossible to miss Forrest Gump, and even those who tried to avoid the hype likely found themselves spending those first few weeks quoting lines from the film and eating a whole lot of chocolate.

Now, 20 years later, Forrest Gump's legacy is as alive as ever, especially when it comes to the careers of its stars. Tom Hanks, Sally Field, and Robin Wright have gone on to major success — but what about the rest of the movie's cast? Here's what six lesser-known Forrest Gump actors are up to today:

Gary Sinise

Paramount Pictures

Played: Lieutenant Dan Taylor, the platoon leader who grew bitter after losing his legs in an ambush but eventually came around, helping Forrest at Bubba Gump's and forgiving those who saved his life.

Then: A decently known actor for True West and Cannes favorite Of Mice and Men.

Now: Until the show's cancellation last year, Sinise was a star of the long-running CSI: NY. He's had supporting roles in several big movies like Apollo 13 and The Green Mile, but he's still probably best known for his Oscar-nominated role in Forrest Gump.

Mykelti Williamson

Paramount Pictures

Played: Bubba Blue, Forrest's friend whose death inspired the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.

Then: A TV actor with a long resume (Hill Street Blues, Midnight Caller) but little recognition.

Now: After a streak of supporting movie roles, Williamson was cast as a regular in 24's eighth season back in 2010, and most recently finished a recurring arc on Justified.

Haley Joel Osment

Paramount Pictures

Played: Forrest as a child.

Then: Forrest Gump was Osment's first role.

Now: He may not have done anything great in the last few years, but back in the late '90s and early '00s, Osment was one of the biggest child stars around, thanks to a little line called "I see dead people."

Siobhan Fallon Hogan

Paramount Pictures

Played: Dorothy Harris, the school bus driver.

Then: Known for a yearlong stint as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, plus a few episodes of Seinfeld.

Now: Hogan hasn't made it huge, but she's had small roles in movies like Holes, Fever Pitch, and Baby Mama.

Sam Anderson

Paramount Pictures

Played: Principal Hancock, Forrest's elementary school principal.

Then: A TV regular on shows such as Growing Pains, Perfect Strangers, and L.A. Law.

Now: Lost fans will recognize Anderson as Bernard, but the actor's also known for roles on Angel and Justified.

Hanna R. Hall

Played: Jenny as a child.

Then: A complete unknown.

Now: Hall hasn't made it big, but some might recognize her from her roles in The Virgin Suicides and Halloween (below).
