The Emmys Need To Reward Robin Wright... Or Else

by Casey Rackham

Fall is right around the corner, which means that we'll soon be grabbing our glasses — I'm sorry, I mean bottles — of wine and watching our favorite TV stars, writers, and shows receive the recognition they deserve at the 2014 Emmys. But before that, we have to figure out who's even going to be nominated in the first place. Sure, I'm excited to see which comedies and dramas will take home the big prize of the night (I'm rooting for you, Orange is the New Black), but what I'm really looking forward to seeing is which woman will win best actress in a drama series, namely whether or not Robin Wright will win for her role on House of Cards . Because, honestly, the past couple of years have proven just how strong female characters have become in TV shows, which means that it could be almost anyone's win.

So who even has a chance of being nominated? Right now, we're probably looking at Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex), Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Claire Danes (Homeland), Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel), Keri Russell (The Americans), Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Kerry Washington (Scandal), Connie Britton (Nashville), and Robin Wright (House of Cards). Now, obviously not all of these amazing actresses will be nominated, but we can cross our fingers for our personal favorites. Although my top pick is for Maslany to finally be nominated for an Emmy for her role(s) — emphasis on the plural — I'm also desperately hoping that Wright will make her way onto the ballot once more.

And although I want Wright to grab a nod because she's fiercely beautiful and powerful as Claire Underwood in Netflix's House of Cards , I also want her to be nominated because I'm insanely afraid of what Claire would do if she didn't get a nod. Guys, it wouldn't be pretty. All I know is that I'm going to be so far away from Claire and D.C. when the Emmy nominations are announced on Thursday, July 10 because I can't even image what she would do. Oh, wait, I totally can imagine what she would do:

1. Poison the other nominees one by one.

I've got a feeling that she's a cyanide kind of girl.

2. Spread nasty rumors about them until they crumble in defeat.

We all know that Claire loves nothing more than causing pain with the use of her mind and words.

3. Whisper in the nominees ears that they'll never amount to anything.

Because obviously she would do that. It's all about messing with their heads.

4. Sleep with their significant others just because.

Frances and Claire have an understanding that what needs to be done, needs to be done.

5. Let someone else win and then harass them for the rest of their lives.

It's all about the end goal.

6. Step up her costume game so hardcore that Olivia Pope cries herself to sleep and gives up her spot.

I've never seen someone look so good in monochromatic outfits.

7. Walk on stage no matter whose name is called.

Claire doesn't take "no" for an answer.

8. JK. None of this is going to have to happen because Claire Underwood always has a backup plan, and she's going to write her name in.

Cheers to you, Claire.
