Elaine Stritch's Best '30 Rock' Moments

by Alanna Bennett

Elaine Stritch was a helluva broad. A long-time Broadway staple, Elaine Stritch died Thursday at the age of 89. She will be missed by many. One of the perks of a career in showbiz, though, is that you leave something very tangible behind when you go. Considering Stritch championed a career lasting seven decades, her contribution to culture is not one that should be underestimated. And so in this time of grief let us remember one of her most brazen characters: That of Jack Donaghy's mother on 30 Rock.

Colleen Donagy was a force to be reckoned with. Of course she was: She was the woman who raised Jack Donaghy, after all. Stritch only appeared in nine episodes total as Colleen, but it was enough to make an impact. You knew that every time Jack Donaghy's mother was in town it would set everyone — especially Jack — on their toes. Considering that this was a show where people practically lived on their toes it was always an entertaining sight. Just take Vulture's words memorializing her, after the Season 7 episode that was her last:

Rest in peace, Colleen Donaghy. You were 87 years young, 14 in demon years, and you went out of this world like you came into it: wearing a hat.

So let us remember Colleen Donaghy — and through her let's remember Elaine Stritch.

The great relationship she had with her son:
