'Fifty Shades' Is Breaking More Records Already

It's only been five days since news broke that the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer had broken a huge YouTube record, and it looks like the trailer isn't finished shocking us all just yet: According to an exclusive report from Deadline, the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer has broken an even bigger record for the "biggest online trailer launch in history." Even crazier, the views are at about 100 million at this point. Yep — the world really is starved for sex. Or, y'know, starved for the remix of Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love" that played during the trailer. Either way.

Here's the report from Deadline, originally received from the film's studios, Universal and Focus Features:

After strategically building up the July 24 trailer debut with teases on NBC’s Today and in Beyonce’s Instagram feed, Universal scored more than 100 million views across all platforms in a week. That is about the number of books sold globally.

That's insane (and maybe fitting, because fans seem to be in agreement that the trailer looks better than the book itself?) and probably an indicator that this movie is going to be a lot bigger than anyone anticipated. Of course, we won't know for sure until the film is released on Valentine's Day next year, but ... it literally stars a former underwear model as a dude into kinky sex with Melanie Griffith's and Don Johnson's daughter. This is the formula for a successful film in Hollywood.
