The 'Mockingjay' Rebel Posters Are Here

by Kadeen Griffiths

Is it just me or has the advertisement campaign for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 been the best thing ever? Between the creepy Capitol commercial featuring a brainwashed Peeta to all of the Capitol propaganda posters that have been giving us nightmares, about the only thing these ads are missing are a better movie trailer and more Katniss Everdeen. The latest Mockingjay posters feature the rebels and, to be honest, they seemed a little boring in comparison to what the Capitol has been putting out for us to enjoy. (So to speak.) However, these Rebel Warriors have a nice, heavenly touch that's all too appropriate given what's going on in Panem during the course of this film.

Each of the soldiers from the underground rebellion that join Katniss are dressed all in black with their weapons in hand before a black background. However, the way the soldiers are positioned in front of the Mockingjay symbol makes each of them look like they possess angel wings. So basically, the rebels are a bunch of black-clad avenging angels ready to reign unholy hell down on the Capitol during this war. That sounds about right to me.

The posters feature Gale, played by Liam Hemsworth, Cressida, played by Natalie Dormer, and Messalla, Boggs, Castor, and Pollux. Cressida is a director from the Capitol who defected to the rebellion and the rest, aside from Gale and Boggs, are part of her crew, helping her put together a propaganda documentary about Katniss to encourage morale across Panem. If these kinds of posters are the kind of propaganda we can expect from Cressida in Mockingjay — Part 1 then the Capitol is going to have to work twice as hard to creep people out. I wouldn't worry about the Capitol if I had any one of these soldiers guarding my back.
