1D's New Single Might Have a Release Date!

by Alex Kritselis

Gather 'round, 1D fans! I have some very exciting news: On Thursday, in an interview with U.K. radio station Capital FM, X Factor judge Simon Cowell said that he's heard One Direction's new album and it's "fantastic." Please, somebody hold me. He elaborated:

There's probably five or six tracks I've already heard that could be singles. There's some very different kinds of songs than what we've done before, they've taken a few more risks. Most importantly, the boys love writing, they love recording.

Oh, and that prediction Cowell made about the band breaking up after "two more albums"? He's changed his mind.

I went on Twitter recently to say I don't think they're going to split up, they're having too good a time! I think they could be doing this five, ten, twenty years if they wanted to!

But do you want to hear some even more exciting news? On Friday, Sugarscape reports that there are rumors that One Direction's new single will be released on September 19. I repeat: We could be hearing the group's brand spankin' new single, which might be called "One Chance to Dance," on September 19. You guys. That's only three weeks away! That's, like, practically no time at all to prepare ourselves for the impending musical revolution!

So, based on One Direction's three previous lead singles ("What Makes You Beautiful," "Live While We're Young," and "Best Song Ever"), what can we expect to hear from their new track? Let's see...

Lots of Guitar

So far, all three of One Direction's lead singles have been chock full of pop guitar goodness! Unless the guys are really looking to change things up, a la Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," I think that their new single will follow suit.

Lyrics About Dancing All Night

Pop songs looove to talk about people letting go of their troubles and just dancing all night long, and "Live While We're Young" and "Best Song Ever" are no exception. Expect to hear some of that stuff on 1D's new one. I think it's supposed to be romantic, but to me, it just sounds exhausting. I have no shame and I WILL fall asleep on the dance floor. Who's gonna stop me? Louis??

Something Upbeat & Up-tempo

Niall told The Today Show earlier in August that the band's new album is "a little bit more edgy," but I don't think he meant that they're going to release a sullen, melancholy breakup ballad as their first single or anything. All of their lead singles so far have been upbeat and up-tempo, and with good reason: You cannot dance all night to sad slow songs! Well, you can, but it would be super boring and not very sexy at all.

Oh-oh-oh's (or Na-na-na's)

It just wouldn't be a One Direction lead single without some "oh-oh-oh's" or "na-na-na's." It makes it sooo-oh-oh-oh easy to sing-along after just one listen, and I'm definitely not mad about that!

A Love Song

What do "What Makes You Beautiful," "Live While We're Young," and "Best Song Ever" all have in common? They all love love.

Niall Or Louis Singing the Bridge

I'm pretty bad at telling the guys' voices apart, but it certainly seems as though Niall and Louis don't get to sing very much. I feel like their thin voices are generally reserved for that tender moment during the bridge, right before the chorus comes crashing back in and everything goes bonkers (see: "Live While We're Young" and "Best Song Ever").

Zayn on Ad-Lib Duty

King of Vocal Runs, King of Ad-Libs. Also...King of Rap!!!

Bonus: Zayn on Rap Duty

ZAYN COULD BE RAPPING ON ONE DIRECTION'S NEW SINGLE. Never forget.

Let's hope that the rumors turn out to be true, because I need One Direction's new single in my life immediately (sooner if possible).
