Peek Moschino's Crazy New Barbie-Themed Collection

by Sienna Fantozzi

Imagination, life is your creation. And Jeremy Scott did just that with his Moschino Spring 2015 "Think Pink" capsule collection in which a few limited pieces from the runway will go on sale for the public almost immediately after the show. A select few retailers who bought the collection sight unseen, including Nordstrom, will have access to the pieces, which will be for sale online by Sunday. Prices range from $35 for a headband to $1,995 for a leather bag.

This marks the second capsule collection for Scott, who ushered in his first collection at Moschino last year inspired by junk-culture with fast-food, chocolate bar, and Happy Meal handbags and iPhone cases. The ten items created such a frenzy that they sold out instantly. So what whimsical theme can we expect for this year's collection? "Think Pink". Like, literally, Barbie pink. The items are basic enough, including a bubble-gum-pink Moschino print backpack, a pink mirror-shaped iPhone case (hopefully for those who only want to satirically appear vain), and a pink printed headband, but the standout piece is clearly the handbag shaped like a leather jacket, complete with silver buttons, zippers, and a chain-link strap. You know, to edge up the rose.

It's unique, I'll give it that. I haven't seen anything like it, discounting denim handbags I used to cut and sew for myself out of old pairs of jeans in high school, before affording designer handbags was ever an option. But for $1,995, I think I'd have to seriously consider if I'd want to look like a Barbie threw up on me. Or if I'd rather invest in an actual leather jacket. Given the success of last year, I'm sure the collection will be well-received, but for those people who think in other hues, you may want to steer clear.
