That Time Kanye "Discovered" Paul McCartney

by Alex Kritselis

If your heart just about exploded when Kanye West dropped his new song, "Only One," featuring Paul McCartney on New Year's Eve, brace yourself: Apparently, the 37-year-old rapper has an even more exciting track with the former Beatle on the horizon. In an interview with Billboard on Friday, rapper Ty Dolla $ign said that he, Kanye West, Paul McCartney, and Rihanna recorded a song together for West's upcoming new album.

Whoa. Let that information sink in for just a moment. Whoa. He explained:

... It's gonna drop soon. I heard they shot the video recently. I don't know what the final title is, but I know it's crazy so just be looking out for [it].

Ty Dolla $ign, West, McCartney, AND Rihanna?! I can't even begin to imagine what that song's going to sound like.

Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of "Only One," but West has a pretty good track record when it comes to his collaborations, so I'm definitely looking forward to this new one. For example, "All of the Lights" reportedly features vocals from 11 different artists (including legends like Charlie Wilson and Elton John), and somehow, West and co-producer Jeff Bhasker were still able to create a cohesive, incredibly powerful song. It's amazing. Oh, and don't even get me started on the brilliant "Monster," which features Jay Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver!

While the response to "Only One" so far has been overwhelmingly positive, it's become clear over the past couple of days that many people don't actually know who McCartney is, which is, you know, kind of surprising:

Wow. But before you rush to take these uninformed Twitter users to task, just remember: different generations grow up idolizing different artists. It's that simple — additionally, not all people have access to resources that can introduce them to music icons like McCartney. Hey, at least they're learning about him now! Better late than never.

Hopefully, we'll get to hear West's new track with Ty Dolla $ign, McCartney, and Rihanna very soon.
