Is Will Smith Planning A Comeback Rap Album?

by Kenya Foy

In case you haven't noticed, Will Smith is totally making a comeback as a rapper in 2015. Lately, the guy formerly known as "The Fresh Prince" has been all over the place promoting his films while breaking into throwback raps on the late-night talk circuit. A couple weeks back, Smith and Jimmy Fallon revisited the '90s with their impromptu performance of "It Takes Two" and on Thursday night Will Smith performed "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" on The Late Show With David Letterman — and suddenly I'm inclined to throw on some of these artists from the early 2000s and get my hips grooving in a Jiggy-like manner.

Since he can't seem to stop rocking the mic, there's no time like the present to prepare for Smith's full-blown reentry into the music world as well. He makes relatively tame rap music that is free of curse words but consists of some pretty nice beats that have been known to elicit a leg shake or two. But the music scene has changed drastically in the 10 years since he released his last album Lost and Found, so what can we expect from his new tunes?

According to recent reports, Smith hit the studio with Kanye West, which suggests that Big Willy (does he still call himself that?) is going for an edgier sound. A Smith-Yeezy collaboration sounds insane and I can't wait to hear what it'll entail — but, it may take a while to hear any music they're working on. So, until then, here are a few names of folks with whom I think he should at least consider making lovely music:

Because why not combine two musical comebacks in one? The thought of this makes me so excited.

Since her dad's uber famous, the thought of working with him is way less mortifying than the average kid. Willow makes some new-age, hipster music, but she could totally sing the hook while her father raps.

Smith's daughter Willow loves Minaj and even sported some of her multi-colored wigs at one point, so there's already that connection.

Teaming up with Lamar would be a great way for Smith to capture a younger fan base, and incorporate a little grit and socio-cultural consciousness into his new sound.

John Legend

With songs like "Just the Two Of Us" displaying Smith's sentimental side, Legend's piano-playing and soulful lyrics could help Smith to produce an updated and equally emotional sound.

Whoever Smith decides to collaborate with, he probably won't have a difficult time nabbing some of today's most popular artists.
