This Is What Ariana's New Album Should Sound Like

by Alex Kritselis

On Tuesday, up-and-coming producer Cashmere Cat premiered "Adore," his song with Ariana Grande, and it's proof positive that the two artists need to work together a lot more in the future. In fact, I wouldn't at all be opposed to Cashmere Cat executive producing Grande's next album! The 27-year-old Swedish musician understands how to craft modern, commercial pop records for Grande without losing the R&B edge that made so many of the tracks on her debut album, Yours Truly, unique. I can say this, of course, because "Adore" isn't the first time that Cashmere Cat and Grande have teamed up: the DJ also co-produced the fantastic "Be My Baby," which appears on Grande's sophomore LP, My Everything.

Much like "Adore," "Be My Baby" is a perfect blend of the 21-year-old singer's original R&B-influenced style and her newfound pop gloss. I feel like Grande's signature sound was lost in places on My Everything — but "Be My Baby" kept it intact. It's definitely one of the album's standouts. Cashmere Cat (real name: Magnus Høiberg) has been making quite a name for himself over the past several months, producing songs for major acts like Kanye West ("Wolves") and Charli XCX ("Break the Rules").

As his fame grows, I hope he will continue to collaborate with Grande — they certainly seem to bring out the best in each other. Check out both "Adore" and "Be My Baby" below.
