That Was A Weird April Fools' Joke, T-Pain

by Lia Beck

Well, that escalated quickly. On Wednesday afternoon, a Vulture interview with T-Pain was released in which the singer claimed that FKA Twigs was engaged to Robert Pattinson. Of course, the Internet went wild at the sight of the news. I mean, T-Pain claiming that R-Pattz is engaged to FKA Twigs? That is the kind of stuff pop culture obsessed people live for! But, soon after the news ran wild, T-Pain took to Instagram to explain that it was all an April Fools' Day joke. Oh, that's right, this all conveniently took place on April Fools' Day. It really couldn't get any better.

For the record, neither Robert Pattinson nor FKA Twigs have responded to Bustle's request for comment. And Vulture has updated their post to include T-Pain's claim it was a joke.

To go back to what T-Pain told Vulture, when asked about what artists he's been listening to for inspiration these days, Mr. Pain responded, "FKA Twigs, she’s one of my favorite artists right now. I’m also super into James Blake right now, and Sampha. A lot of international artists." He was then asked if FKA Twigs would appear on his album and replied,

Well, the first time we even met each other, we met in the studio. Her music’s changed a lot since then. But she’s on tour so much, and anytime I call her, she’s in a different place. And she’s engaged now, so that’s about to be a whole other thing. [Laughs.]

The reporter then said, "Wait, she’s engaged? That's news to me." To which T-Pizzle said, "Yeah, to ol’ Patty [Robert Pattinson]. I don’t know if she wanted anybody to know that..." Ugh! Please don't let T-Pain calling Robert Pattinson "ol' Patty" be part of some intricate joke!

In the Instagram T-Pain posted a couple hours after the interview ran, he captioned a picture of some clip art-looking wedding rings: "Added a little #AprilFools to my interview with Vulture Magazine today. Check it out!!!!"

Now, the biggest question this leaves me with is whether T-Pain is really THAT subtle with his April Fools' jokes? I mean, it's a possibility, but I'm of the mind that T-Pain just had the most convenient April Fools' cover-up that has ever occurred. That said, it's not like T-Pain would've had to think this out very far in advance. As Vulture tells Bustle, the interview was, in fact, conducted on the morning of April Fools' Day.

Well, we'll just have to wait and see if there's an engagement confirmation in the future from Pattinson or Twigs.
