Is There A New Beyoncé Album On The Way?

by Chelsea Mize

In honor of her seventh wedding anniversary, Beyoncé revealed a new song called "Die With You" which is sweetly dedicated to Jay Z. The song debuted on Jay Z's brand new streaming service, TIDAL on April 4, and, as with most things Bey touches, immediately broke the Internet. New Beyoncé music is always exciting but the implications of this song could be even more exciting. Is Beyoncé's "Die With You" part of a new album?

Since the deluxe edition of Beyoncé dropped in 2014, we haven't been gifted with much new Beyoncé music to get excited about. So, naturally, this leaves me wondering if "Die With You" could be our first glimpse at a follow-up album to Beyoncé's brilliant pièce de résistance.

Sadly, however, whether or not Beyoncé is planning to release new material isn't clear for now. This song release could be just what it seems — Beyoncé's touching homage to her marriage in celebration of her anniversary with her husband. Or, maybe this is just a marketing move to promote TIDAL; perhaps Beyoncé's real anniversary gift to her husband was putting out some honey to attract the Beyhive to Jay Z's fledgling streaming service. At this point, it's not even clear if "Die With You" will be available on iTunes or not.

However, while we may not know whether or not "Die With You" means new music, I think there are more than a few reasons why the song could be the first indications of a new album for the Beyhive to buzz about. Let's take a look at why "Die With You" could mean a new Beyoncé album is in the works:

Beyoncé Loves To Surprise Us

If the surprise release of Beyoncé in 2013 indicates anything, it's that Queen Bey has more than a few tricks up her sleeve and that she isn't afraid to pull a fast one on us. Perhaps "Die With You" is the first step in a line of tactical maneuvers to hint that a new album is in the works. Beyoncé was a complete surprise, yes, but she wouldn't pull the same trick twice — maybe her strategy this time around is to obscurely tease her fans and implement diversions so she can drop an album when people least expect it (but want it more than than they ever knew they could).

This Could Be a Killer Marketing Move for TIDAL

Jay Z's new streaming service, TIDAL, debuted this week to American consumers. Jay Z's star power alone is probably enough for this operation to be successful on its own, but wouldn't an exclusive Beyoncé album in the title catalogue help solidify its status as big contender in the world of music streaming? The power of the Beyhive could turn TIDAL into a musical mainstay easily.

It's Been a While Since Beyoncé Was Released

Though it feels like just yesterday Beyoncé changed the world with her surprise visual album, it's been almost a year and a half since Beyoncé dropped. A year and a half is plenty of time for the Queen to produce something amazing for her loyal subjects.

Anyway, if you haven't heard Beyoncé's new song, "Die With You," you can check it out over at TIDAL.
