'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Introduces "Honest Eddie"

by Rosie Narasaki

With all of the new characters currently swirling around Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it's almost hard to imagine even more fresh faces making their way into the fold. After all, with the considerable "the real S.H.I.E.L.D." drama, and the arguably even more considerable Inhuman drama, there's a lot going on this season. That said, it looks like we're getting a new person of interest in Tuesday's episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., named "Honest Eddie," which makes him intriguing already.

There has to be a story to go with a name like that. There's not much information out there about Honest Eddie. His character isn't described in any ABC press releases, there are no glimpses of him in any of the promo clips or sneak previews (or even images), and no page on the usually detailed Marvel Wiki. Basically, all we know is that Honest Eddie will be featured in Tuesday night's episode, "Afterlife," and he'll be played by Stoney Westmoreland (who you may recognize as a Secret Service agent from Scandal). Here are a few predictions for what Honest Eddie could bring to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

He's Actually Honest John

There's no one from the Marvel Universe called Honest Eddie, but there is a character named Honest John. He just so happens to be a villain with a pretty darn intriguing power: He can appear in the form of his chosen audience's ideal leader, which has some interesting implications what with all the power dynamic turmoil going on right now. Plus, Honest John's historically had ties with Red Skull (founder of Hydra), so there could be a tie-in there.

And hey, if he's got special abilities...

He Could Be An Inhuman

Eddie could be someone Skye's going to meet at the Inhuman home base (along with dreamy Lincoln Campbell, of course).

Or maybe...

He's Affiliated With "The Real S.H.I.E.L.D."

Think about it: If we follow the line of wild speculation that Honest Eddie is somehow connected to Honest John, he'd definitely be someone that "the real S.H.I.E.L.D." would want on their side. Maybe that's how loyalties got so jumbled in the first place — if Hypothetical Honest Eddie/John used his powers to impersonate Director Fury, it would account for a lot of the competing directives he doled out back when S.H.I.E.L.D. fell.

Then again...

He Could Be Anyone

As much as I'd love to see my theories come true, bringing in a big league super-powered villain at this point in the game wouldn't make much sense. Honest Eddie could (Chris Traeger voice) literally be anyone on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — so I guess we'll have to wait until "Afterlife" to find out.
